Just watched Brazil yesterday.
Great movie!
Great score!
I bought it today. Michael Kamen did a very good job.
What are your opinions?
Any other recommendations on Kamen?
I haven't heard much by the composer.Kyri

Great Movie indeed! I've seen it countless times. And a great score, but a not-so-great Album IMHO. WHY does it has Kate Bush on it? There's no such Version in the Film. And those Dialogues on the CD...B.t.w. has a-n-y-b-o-d-y seen Sam Lowry?

My favorite arrangement of "Brazil" EVER was the orchestral version that Kamen did for Sam's dream. So, naturally, when I get the album, Kate Bush is f--king singing over it. I mean, if they'd just given us BOTH, I'd be fine, but NO!!!!!!! What a lame, lame album, right down to the cut-and-paste/Arial-type artwork. Boo!Shaun

Clearly the intention was to use Kate Bush's version of Brazil during Sam's dream but at some late stage there was a change of heart but the soundtrack master had already been produced. Happened with Barry's Thunderball and Arnold's TND and numerous others. Frustrating but we juat have to put up with it for now.BTW it's a great film!!!

BRAZIL is by far one of my favourite movies of all times! Terry Gilliam rules!Kamen's score makes great use of Ary Barroso's AQUARELA DO BRASIL tune.

Terry Gilliam is my favorite director. I don't think he's the best director of all-time (though he certainly ranks!), but he is my favorite.

I don't think the soundtrack master was produced until its release in 1991.

"Bloody typical. They've gone back to metric without telling us."Kyri,
I have a feeling you read my comments in the other thread, so that part's done with.

If you liked Brazil, the next logical step is The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Unfortunately it's pretty rare and usually a little pricey if you do happen to find it (it's been out of print for some time).
I'd recommend Mr. Holland's Opus and perhaps his concert work "The New Moon in the Old Moon's Arms." His recent Band of Brothers is quite good as well.
But nothing he has done beats Brazil and Munchausen.

Brazil....Kamen's finest score. The Milan album was a freaking dream come true for me, although it's shoddily produced in parts....and I completely agree with Dr. Rutherfords remark about Bush
I file my scores from best to worst, and I'll just say that this is at the top, followed by Baron Munchaesen and the Saxophone Concerto

I CANNOT recommend that Concerto enough to people, it's the most joyous music he's done, simply invigorating, and miles away from the dark strings of The Dead Zone, Die Hard, and Suspect.NP: Memoirs Of An Invisible Man(Walker)Speaking of dark....nice trumpet work though

Ah, yes... The Adventures of Baon Munchausen. An amazing score, a great album.I wonder though... the U.S. version had a fanfare of the Munchausen theme over the opening credits that does not appear on the album (a different version of the fanfare closes the album). I say "U.S. version" because it is over the Columbia Pictures logo and the "Columbia Pictures Presents" card which is in a different font from the rest of the film's credits). I have the laserdisc, so I have it in full glorious digital sound, but I wonder where that came from and if it was meant to be there...
