Anyone here (SCimmerian?) read David Gemmell's novel LEGEND?! a fabulous read with great character writing, a good story and corking battle scenes...the mans a good writer and a great story teller! If sword & sorcery is what your after then this guy is one of the better writers out there.Read it BY CROM!
I should point out that it has absolutely NOTHING to do with Ridley Scott's film!

Ohhhhh... I touched a nerve here!
Only the great mlw has the right to insult others...
After all, who am I?
How many books about GODZILA I wrote?
Poor me...
Anyway, I think it was on GOJIRA VERSUS THE BIG DILDO that the rubber monster was transformed into a large marge. Cool Ware!!

N.P.: TFOTR (Howard Shore) ***** "Oscar Winner"

In GODZILA VERSUS THE BIG DILDO, after the rubber moster is destroyed, apparently it become a very big marge. But lets wait for the Godzila expert, Michael Ware, the LOTR hater, to pop in and clarify things for us, poor mortals...

There are too many great moments for me to pick just one, so here are (some) of the scenes I look forward to when watching it:The dirty look the Hobbit wife gives her husband at the beginning (a wonderfully human moment that I notice puts the non-Tolkienites at ease about the film).
Saruman spin Gandalf around just to be mean.
The first view of what Isengard has become closes in on the moth...
...and after Gandalf speaks to it we fall off the side of the tower and into the caverns of Isengard.
The Arwen chase scene (I know, Marian, I know).
The beauty of Rivendell.
Gandalf and Frodo's discussion in Moria.
Sean Bean's oh-so-perfect delivery of the line, "They have a cave troll!" in Moria.
The shot of the staircase falling after they make it across to the bridge of Khazad-Dum.
The long shot in Lothlorien of the house in/of the trees.
The breaking of the fellowship.

The rest is fine with me (and I think most of the additional Arwen scenes perfectly help to introduce one of LOTRs most important themes).

There's more than that, of course. Those are just the ones that sprung to mind.

The very tactile anticipation in the audience as the final scene faded to black and the words "Coming this Christmas" blazened on the screen.WOW!!! I've never sat with an audience that evidenced such enthusiasm for a trailer in my 25 years of moviegoing.
I almost afraid to say I'll go see it a 7th time just for the trailer.

Many many great wonderful moments in this movie. Having seen it three times now, I can say my favorite moment, just because of its execution on a visual and audio level, is where the Ring Wraithes enter the tavern. The fog that pours all around them as the barkeep has his hands up to his ears gritting his teeth as the wraithes enter one right after the other with this regimented, sword-drawn determination, hand extended out. The choir in Shore's score is cranked full blast and it becomes this beautiful nightmare as they head to their assault.Other favorite moments are the armies of humans and elves coming up over the hills of Mordor in the beginning battle scene and the line of troops that twirl those huge ax like weapons as they take out a line of Orcs. Beautiful choreography there. Like a machine!
And I do say that I get a little lump in my throat at these lines at the end of the movie "My brother. My king." and "I made a promise Mr. Frodo. I made a promise".
I can't wait to see that extended footage. Go Peter Jackson! Finally you get your due credit!!!

My favorite momemt was when the film was over and I could leave. My butt hurt, and my mind was pondering the mess I had just watched. I was unable to see the magic that many others saw. Some tighter editing, and some better(more oldstyle convential effects other than those fake looking CGI)effects might have helped. On the other hand maybe not.

You have not seen nor heard this film unless you've seen and heard it as I on a terrific IMAX setup. And you ain't seen nor heard anything like those moments immediately after Aragon announced, "Welcome to Rivendell."

I believe that's the second time you mention it - but I don't think Aragorn ever says "Welcome to Rivendell"?
Do you mean Elrond? Or Gandalf? (Must go see film again - soon!)

Rivendell is the English translation of the Westron translation of the Elvish name Imaldris.

HOWARD: Surely, there must be a member of the audience who can settle the question.MARIAN: Don't call me Shirley!
