Well, now it seems that the CRUEL INTENTIONS John Ottman compilation album is out of print. And it was just released like 1.5 years ago...... geezzzzzzz......

If you can find it, I'd suggest you get it..... but that's just my personal, biased opinion.

(Granted, I never liked the cover they used instead of the one Ottman and I came up with, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise.....?)

    Boo

Guess I'll have to pick this up, just saw it in stores last week.
The cover is a bit sucky.....well, I don't like it 'cos she's smoking

Dan, maybe you could post the original cover somewhere, on Ottman's site?

Dang it, that's something else I'm going to have to pick up pronto. I've never seen it in any shops. But that's coz I live in some silly backwards alternate world, where fishes eat cheese for midnight feasts.
And yeah, is the other cover anywhere? I'm not too keen on the one that was used either. Still, it's the music that counts & what I've heard of it is great. Too bad it's going OOP.

...and live in a place where the local pub plays Doyle's FRANKENSTEIN as well!

Btw, Incognito is a really fun score, more hectic than I had imagined, but I really came around to liking the album after hearing it a couple months ago.
Does ANYONE know what the notes of the album mean, referring to changing your bass and treble settings to 0 when playing Incognito for the 'ultimate' listening experience?
Aside from the obvious answer, did they mix it differently? Any fun info on this!?!?

    Grazia,
    Sean

I'm afraid I'm not really much of an admirer of Ottman's work. I've picked up maybe six albums and none of them have really grabbed me.

Specifically on the CRUEL INTENTIONS CD, I wish that whoever designed the rear inlay hadn't used blue print on a blue background for the track details...

Ottman`s great, Incognito being one of the greatest scores ever composed.
I`d still like a release, official or unofficial for Shearmur`s Cruel Intentions, very catchy

    Of course it was there!

I also got an answer to my question about INCOGNITO, it was a defective tape used for the RCA album. The Varese has two tracks from a corrected master.

    Grazia!

Yeah, but you only get like 2 tracks though.
The RCA release sounds fine to me. Until the remastered tracks I didn't know anything was wrong with the original, I assumed they were going for the Concert Hall type of sound.

Except "concert hall" sound does not mean distorted. Which is how my RCA Incognito sounds like: as if it were a distorted badly remixed 1960's recording with shrill sound.

    Shrill is the word, man.

I bought Incognito when it was originally released, and thought it was terrible (especially hard to listen to because of the aforementioned shrill sound). A few months later, the film was released on video, and my girlfriend starting asking me for the CD. Long story short, she's smart and I'm not.

Did you just say that your girlfriend is shrill?

It really is a good disc, one of Ottman's best. I know Amazon still carries it, and I bet Peter can find it somewhere.

And yes, I don't think it found it's way to local stores, why I don't know. I always take the time to look but have never seen it.

....and I kept my word this past holiday weekend, and picked this up(saw it in TWO seperate shops actually).

Cruel is a really nice score, T.Newman meets ummmm Vivaldi! Really, it's a shame it was tossed, since once again, a rejected score beats the used one! The 25mins. here are quite easy to listen to, recommended to fans of newer scores ala' Craig Armstrong.

I'm really starting to like Ottman's playful style. The Incognito cues sound a HELL of a lot better, and that note about the sound and the bad Dolby card make sense now.
Lake Placid gets a nice little suite of 'travelling' music, keeping a brisk tempo for 5mins. This was a standout for me, anyone want to further a recommendation for getting the whole enchilada?
Snow White....as much as I try, and want to like this score(and I know that Ottman is proud of it), I just can't get into it.
Fantasy Island is fun, in that it transfers his playful style onto a Carribean setting, and makes for a good little suite.
Halloween...not bad, another one I may buy. It works, and it doesn't. The theme played by full orchestra was a nice experiment, but made me want to listen to the original again.

Hope I didn't leave anything out, and while I think it may have been a bit early for an Ottman retrospective, it's a good disc

    Best,
    Sean

PS...Eight Legged Freaks looks great! Check out his site for info, but I was thinking it was Bubble Boy 2, or something like that....didn't know it's a monster movie! Huzzzzzzah!!!!!

Hey! Just heard from Varese Sarabande that the CD is NOT OUT OF PRINT!! Seems that due to a snafu on their system, it listed it as such.

But it's actually still readily available, and very much in print. (Whew!!)

So, go get it - now you really have NO excuse!!

Bravo on that subtle publicity stunt, Dan.

How much did John pay you?

I can't say - that would be a breach of contract...

Seriously, though - I provided the link to the Varese page in the first post; so there's no question that they had it listed as being "out of print" on their website (at the time).

I can concur with Dan, the link did say out of print, so if it's anyone's stunt, blame Varese....besides, it's not a bad record, it's not like they were trying to get people to buy Rowland's Journey to the Center of The Earth Sorry Varese, but this thing is awful...there is about 100 seconds of orchestra here, and the Aussie Philharmonic is trumpeted on the back cover
