I'm sure that this has been asked before but I will ask it again.

    *ahem*

I have just recently gotten to Goldenthal's work (meaning I just listened to the whole score to Michael Collins this morning) and I am quite impressed by it. I have Michael Collins and Batman Forever. What other Goldenthal scores should a newly sprouting fan get first? I really have no idea about any of Goldyboy's other works and would like something about them. (I am not reading any of filmtracks reviews for them. )

Just wondering. I know their are some big Goldethal fans here. Help me out!

    Jz

    Interview with the Vampire
    Cobb

+ a host of other great ones.

For some great Goldenthal reviews, which helped me a lot, go over to MovieWave

    You should get:

    - Interview With A Vampire
    - Final Fantasy
    - Sphere
    - Cobb
    - Alien 3

In my opinion, these five, along with Michael Collins, are Goldenthal's best. Fantastic scores. I also love his ballet music for Othello, but I don't know if I should recommend it to you. It's available on Varese Sarabande.

Other scores by Goldenthal might not appeal to your taste. He does write "special" music. This doesn't make them unlistenable. The following scores belong to that category:

    - Butcher Boy
    - Pet Sematary
    - Titus

The avarage Goldenthal scores (some people here will disagree; I'm one of them):

    - Batman & Robin (great score, comparable with Batman Forever, not available on cd though, i.e. except for the 2CD bootleg)
    - Demolition Man (well, whatever)
    - In Dreams (heavy)
    - Heat (I love Moby's cues)
    - Golden Gate (not my piece of cake)

Alien 3 (in my opinion, most of his scores are unique and interesting)
You can read my review here at MM.com.

Oh, and John Z, DON'T read the Alien 3 and Sphere reviews at Filmtracks. They will prevent you from bying the scores(the same thing happened to me up until i decided to buy them anyways)

    k

ps:i'm really happy you are broading your collection even more with Goldenthal!

My recordings of Elliot Goldenthal only extends onto Final Fantasy, and I am very impressed with his work there. Incredible synth makes for a dark forboding mood. This guy is next on my list for scoring LOTR.

Oh man. How unbelievable would a Goldenthal Loid of the Wings sound? I dig Shore's score, but man. That one would have been very cool.

Acctually Spicy I noticed that on Michael Collins the chorus in track 1 sounds quite a bit like Shore's LOTR.

Kyri: I sadly was just looking at them. Although I'll need to get them and make my own descision on it.
