Jonathan, what's that CALIGARI disc with Becce music? I noticed that Philipp also picked up FRANKENSTEIN with music by Giuseppe Becce, though I'm pretty sure there was no original music in the original Boris flick, apart from the titles. What's the score(hee hee)?Regarding the old CALIGARI film: I saw that on TV donkey's years ago, and it was tracked with a very well-known classical work, though I can't remember what it was. So, again, who's this Becce, and again, what's the score (hee hee, hee hee)?

Oh, and how's that John Scott one, A STUDY IN TERROR? That was a 60s Brit film, right, about Jack the Ripper? I seem to remember that it tried to emulate Hammer, in the pictorial sense at least. Is the score up there with the greats of that studio, or is it another kettle of fish altogether?

Hi Graham.
DR.CALIGARI: 'The year of the film's release,1920, it was tracked with various classical pieces. The film went down like a lead balloon. It was withdrawn and an original score was composed by Becce. Only scraps of the score have survived, so these fragments were combined with music composed by Emil Gerhardt, providing a seamless score which is presented on this CD. Much in the manner of the combination of Honegger's music for NAPOLEON with that composed by Constant. Now to A STUDY IN TERROR: I bought the score on Record on the Roulette label many years ago. The CD is much expanded and re-recorded. According to one of my reference books, the film was his first major score.

Interesting, that about CALIGARI. Anyone know the story behind Becce's involvement with FRANKENSTEIN?
