I got mine in the UK today, which was great, but rather bittersweet (see my "Tax" thread for the boring details). Excellent sound, and the booklet does a nice job of detailing how some cues were recycled and retracked in places they weren't intended to go.

It seems that mail from L.A. travels faster to the UK than it does to the east coast. I got an email from Varese saying that mine had been shipped on Monday the 25th.[Message edited by mgh on 02-28-2002]

I called them and was told they send out the international orders first.[Message edited by tranked on 02-28-2002]

Ugh... so glad to hear I am not the only one anxiously awaiting the mail... I wonder-do you have to be home to accept a UPS delivery?? I haven't had one in awhile and hope they'll just leave it- some people work!!

Anybody think this one will sell out?

I've only listened to about 3/4 of this CD and I think it's the most overrated piece of schmit. I just can't crack open Kamen's musical language and figure out what he's saying with the music, though I am trying.
I'll keep the CD though.if you can only get ONE of this new crop of Varese CDs get Love is a Many-Splendored Thing, which is just so fine on so many levels.

Hallo.
got my copy two days ago (in Germany as a US import). Very complex stuff and not so exciting as i believed initially. Lethal Weapon and Last Boy Scout are much better!Michael

Personally, I would have preferred they'd released The Bride, Sheena or The Fourth Man. Never quite understood what the big deal was/is over Die Hard (music wise, that is).

I love the Varese website... if you do a search for "Die Hard," you'll get results for:- Jackie DeShannon: You Know Me
- Cleopatra
- Omen: Deluxe
- 13 Ghosts
- ... and finally, Die Hard
- Die Hard 2
I have a feeling that I can pass score over... at least for now.

I agreee, the booklet is very good, but the sound is not very good. There is a constant tape hiss on this disc, and it isn't subtle. I played this on my CD-Recorder, and when the music ends, the hiss is so prevalent, the gauges on my machine are much higher than they should be for a "silent" section. Also, it's very muddy sounding. There is some decent bass in sections, and the imaging is pretty good, but I have bootlegs with better sound than this release. I wonder why this one sounds so bad. Does anyone know the conditions of the master tapes? It was recorded by Armin Steiner, and he usually does a good job.I'm happy Varese released this score though, as I now have the Die Hard Trilogy on LD, DVD and now CD.

I also felt the sound quality was slightly subpar on this release. Not too sound nitpicky or anything, but it is a little muddy, perhaps too much base, and there is a great amount of hiss on the tracks. It's still a good listen (though some of the suspense tracks drag), but I couldn't figure out if it was my stereo or the CD when I heard the clouded sound quality.

Mine arrived today (yesterday since its 12.27AM).The ink in the booklet smells great but can someone tell me what the letters and numbers in brackets stated after each cue refers to?

They're the recording slate numbers for each of the cues. For example, 13M1 would be reel 13, cue 1.

Maybe someday, I'll get this and have a chance to complain about something (other than not getting the disc).Shaun

Mine showed up on Monday. I like it; if the sound is sub-standard, it's not noticeably so (at least to me).NP: THE BLUES BROTHERS (Various)

OK, the disc is here.........and guess who's ready to bitch?I really hate saying this, but the sound quality really IS bad. In fact, it sounds like a slightly cleaned up version of the 2-disc boot from a while back (which, if you've heard that version, isn't saying much).
I know Fox is really bad at archiving their film music (as evidenced by just about every single archival release from their vaults), but sh*t........it's not even 15 years old!
