Spike Milligan, one of my all time comedy heroes has died at the age of 83!

Sereal,anarchic,absurd...but above all funny. The word genius get's banded around all too readily for lesser talents, with Spike there is no doubt that the man was a genius!

I know 83 is a good age but I'm still gutted!

    Good night Spike!

    Tim

Not to be unsensitive or anything, but it seems like folks are droppin' like flies as of late.

I don't think I've ever seen Milligan in anything, but anyone's death is always unfortunate (most of the time ). Rest in peace, duders.

SPIKE MILLIGAN: I've listened to music right up to Schoenberg, but I'm baffled by him and this tonal [sic] music. I suppose it's technically very clever but it doesn't give me any emotion. I like Mahler. Do you listen to any classical music?

    VAN MORRISON: Debussy.

SPIKE MILLIGAN: Marvellous. Sensuous, descriptive music...One of the greatest feelings in the world is to play music, it's total freedom. When I was playing that trumpet, I couldn't think about the rates, the rent. It was liberation, self-therapy. And you can induce that therapy in other people...

[There follows a long and rather thoughtful pause.]

SPIKE MILLIGAN: This silence comes to you courtesy of "What The F*ck Is He Going To Say Next?"

He was great on the Parkinson chat show way back. Taking his seat, he waited for the applause to die down and the musical accompaniement to come to a halt, then, after shaking his head in awe at the band leader, said "Jack Parnell! Written over four hundred tunes. All of them crap."

He was a genius, I am so sad about this news. We're just losing so many great people...
