I was told a few weeks ago about a complete score of Pearl Harbor (bootleg of course). Has anyone else heard about it? I can´t understand how Zimmer´s best work of the year was so poorly edited by Warner music:
40 minutes of score from a three hour movie??!! Where is all the action music??!! I want it all!!
P.D.:Man....the Black Hawk down score works fantastic with the images of the film.

Hans has said several times that the soundtrack is produced exactly the way he wanted it. Short and to the point. And if you want action music then go buy The Peacemaker.

Yeah, here is his quote from my interview with him:quote:
I didn't want to put a lot of action music on the album - I wanted it short and to the point; this is what I had to say. Action music works best when it's on the screen and it's happening now. If you want action, get Gladiator. You make these esthetic choices - and sometimes you get it wrong. As for Faith Hill contributing to the success of the album, I don't think it hurts to have a really pretty blonde girl who's a major star singing - I think it's useful! I would be a fool to say that she had nothing to do with the success of the album.Dan

I know that if I want action music I can listen to the complete score of Peacemaker (it´s amazing).....but I ALSO would like to listen to the action music of Pearl Harbor, because in the movie you can´t enjoy it a 100% due to the sound effects and dialogues. As for Zimmer´s words in the interview.....all genious say silly things sometimes :P

And a complete Black Hawk Down would be nice.
The cd`s missing a lot of great orchestral stuff that are mostly variations on the theme heard on Leave No Man Behind and the action music in Tribal War.NP: Incognito / Ottman *****/*****

Any chance that Pearl Harbor will turn up a complete score as isolated score on the much-rumored 4-DVD version coming in May? It's not just the action music that I wanted, but also the trailer music by Jablonsky which were tremendous. Heck, on the regular 2-DVD version the "Making Of" documentary played a lot of the action cues (albeit with tons of voice-overs) that were missing from the CD.Before reading Dan's interview with Zimmer I had an idea that the soundtrack itself was meant and designed for those who were also in the Faith Hill fanbase, so most of the romantic and melodic pieces were packed onto the disc as opposed to the action cues or the Japanese themes. I know that Zimmer has publicly acknowledged that he does NOT consider Pearl Harbor to be one of his better achievements, but as a listener I beg to differ. I enjoyed it immensely and it has definitely become my favorite Zimmer score right up there with Toys and Black Hawk Down (I knew the movie version of "Leave No Man Behind" was much longer as the whole convoy rescue lasted at least 10-15 minutes).

[quote]Any chance that Pearl Harbor will turn up a complete score as isolated score on the much-rumored 4-DVD version coming in May?[quote]It's coming in July now (2nd I THINK) and there won't be a full iso score, no. To my knowledge the plans are still set to isolate the music track for the attack break down featurette.

But the question is: Will the DVD still contain the amazing Dolby Headphone track? What a waste of space.

On the movie of Pearl Harbor, and this is how I remember it is that the guy on screen was the Japanese leader that issued the attack command, and there was drums playing, is that on the CD?

Yes, I believe the Japanese theme with the heavy beats of drums you're referring to is track 6, "The Attack," at least during the beginning minute or so. Of course, the movie played this theme so much more than the soundtrack had showcased. The title screen on the 2-DVD version plays the prelude to this cue but starts looping before getting to the drums. And I agree on the Dolby Headphones bit. "What a waste" is right. If only that space could have been used for an isolated score or even fit the movie on ONE DVD I might have been content with the present 2-DVD version.
Does anyone realize that the new DVD version--otherwise known as the Vista Series Director's Cut--is listed at Amazon already?
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/dvd/B00005Q3TZ/tech-info/002-4052776-7078449Interesting observations from their listing:
*The specs show a "music only" audio track at Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround (does that mean it does have the full score?) and yet for Intermission it lists score.
*This version is rated R, not PG-13.
*Movie still spread out on 2-DVD.posted 02-26-2002 09:41 PM PT (US)

Well their box artwork is out of date as are the disc specs they list, so I wouldn't go trusting Amazon as they are notorious for such mistakes. They fail to even mention the DTS track for the movie and still list the number of discs as 3. Plus, their release date is wrong.Dan
