Topic: Concert Works by Film Composers: A Big List

James

Oscar® Winner

Greetings Fellow Boardpersons,Because I thought it would be helpful and informative, I have compiled the following list of concert works by film composers available on CD. Look through it... you may come across some interesting surprises.
First, I have to lay down some rules.
Rule no. 1 - There were only so many extremes I could go to. In some cases a composer's discography was too large to really warrant inclusion. This is mostly because I didn't want to spend the time detailing all of their work when you can find their CDs yourself perhaps a little easier than some of the more obscure ones I have listed. Here are the composers whose classical discographies were large enough that I did not include them: David Amram, Malcolm Arnold, Richard Rodney Bennett, Bernard Herrmann, Wojceich Kilar, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Michael Nyman, Andre Previn, Nino Rota, Miklos Rozsa, Franz Waxman, John Williams. There were others that I hesitated to include, but thought the better of it because it seemed that many of the works and the CDs that contained them were somewhat obscure. If you want to learn about the concert repertoire of any of the composers listed above, I suggest you pay a visit to AllClassical.com.
Rule no. 2 - I did not include concert suites that were based on film scores.
Rule no. 3 - I only included works contained on regular releases, not promos or bootlegs.
Rule no. 4 - I couldn't decide whether McNeely's Shadows of the Empire counts as a concert work, but I figured everybody knew about that one anyway so I left it out.
Rule no. 5 - Additions and corrections are absolutely more than welcome.
Now that I have bored you with that, on to the list.

Great work!As to Howard Blake, may I just say that you're missing some items, including the 3 Sony CDs from the late 1980's (Benedictus, Piano Concerto, and Conquest of Space.)
