HART’S WAR
ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK
MUSIC COMPOSED BY ACADEMY AWARD WINNER RACHEL PORTMAN
CD Released February 12, 2002 From Decca/UMG Soundtracks(New York, NY January 25, 2002) –Bruce Willis (Bandits, The Sixth Sense) and Colin Farrell (American Outlaws) star in Hart’s War, a WWII drama that takes place in a German POW camp directed by Gregory Hoblit (Frequency). Featuring original music composed by Academy Award winner Rachel Portman, the Decca soundtrack album will be released February 12, 2002.
With Hart’s War, Rachel Portman has crafted a beautiful score featuring lush orchestrations. Critics are already buzzing, calling this score her most emotional work to date. . Known for her intellectual focus that often brings a sharp, rhythmic approach to her work, Portman has created some of the most delicate and melodic music heard in film in recent years. As a result, she is a highly decorated composer who has earned multiple Grammy, Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations. In fact, she staked new ground in film music by becoming the first female composer to win an Academy Award when, in 1997, she won an Oscar for her celebrated score to Emma. Since then, her scores for Chocolat and The Cider House Rules have both received Oscar nominations.
Hart’s War is an incredible tale of the legendary honor, courage and sacrifices made by soldiers at war defending the American way of life. In it, fourth generation war hero Col. William McNamara (Bruce Willis) is imprisoned in a brutal German POW camp during World War II. Still, as the camp’s highest-ranking American officer, he commands his fellow inmates, keeping a sense of honor alive in a place where honor is easy to destroy, all under the dangerous, ever-watchful eye of SS Major Wilhelm Visser (Marcel Iures). Never giving up the fight to win the war, he is silently planning, waiting for his moment to strike back at the enemy.
A murder in the camp gives him the chance to set a risky plan in motion. With a court martial to keep Visser and the Germans distracted, McNamara orchestrates a cunning scheme to escape and destroy a nearby munitions plant, enlisting the help of young Lt. Tommy Hart (Colin Farrell). Together with his men, McNamara uses a hero’s resolve to carry out his mission, ultimately forced to weigh the value of his life against the good of his country.
MGM Pictures presents Hart’s War, opening February 15 at theaters everywhere. Starring Bruce Willis and Colin Farrell. Based on the novel by John Katzenbach. Directed by Gregory Hoblit.
