Ok guys, time to play name that tune.

I was just listening to Horner's SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, and towards the end of the score, there is a source cue, played by the carnival band.
It's after the scene where Mr.Dark threatens Mr.Halloway, and it is a slow funeral march piece.....I know it's something classical, but I cannot place it, and it is driving me absolutely mad!!! If it helps to hum it:

dum dahhh da da da daaaaaa da
dum duh duh

Anyone know this! You get a box o' Dunkin Donuts and my lifelong gratitude if ya do!

Cheers!
Sean

The film's end credits don't mention the use of any classical work, so I'm guessing it's either an original James Horner cue or an "original" James Horner cue.

Or they just decided not to cite their use of the piece. But I don't recognize it from anything else.

I think that a lot of times they just don't credit source cues like that, and this may be a public domain piece anyway...its driving me crazy, I want to say it's Beethoven, but I'm not sure.

The scene plays out where the carnival band(brass, cymbals) plays cheery 'carnival' music, then a cue by Horner for the conversation, then the band resumes with this funeral march. I can hear the classical rendition in my head, it's for heavy strings and winds, but I just can't place it...and I know I have the original piece at home!!

Ahhhck!
Sean

PS...thank you for checking the credits Kirk, I appreciate it!

I know Georges Delerue wrote a bunch of "source cues" for SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES - I wonder if they stayed in the final film? (Kinda like how George Fenton's classical arrangements are still in INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE......)

Now that's one I hadn't heard before! The source cues are all carnival organ, band, church organ, two slow 'big band' jazz cues....at least from the isolated laserdisc track. The source cues sound totally generic, unlike Horner, Delerue, anyone really...except this damned classical reference.

I was fortunate to receive a dub of the
complete Delerue score to SOMETHING WICKED
which I also watched this past week. He
contributed an astonishingly atmospheric
score and many source cues, including
carnival organ, marches, etc. However,
none appear to have been retained. The
complete Delerue effort is most worthy of
preservation, and the performance is superior
to the London Sessions CD. My tape leaves
quite a bit to be desired sonically, though.

I've never seen this movie or heard the score. Can anyone make an MP3? I like riddles.

Hey Marian!

There ya are! I know that you must know this one, and if I can figure out how to rip this track and make an MP3, and get it to you!, you can free my brain of this incredible frustration!!

I know it's sitting on a rack here, and it's Beethoven, or Mozart, or maybe even, oh yes....Bruckner! It's one of the heavyweights, and Maestro Anton keeps coming up in my head for some reason....

More to come...
