By: meegle (Member)Just heard the "confirmed" news that Madonna will be providing a song for Bond 20 and, even though it's unclear as to whether it'll be the title song or not, I'm going to hope and assume that it IS the title song.
I can also only hope that it would be as good as KD Lang's Tomorrow Never Dies original title track song.
Anyway, I dig most of Madonna's songs and was wondering, for those of you who care, if you all would like her Bond song to be fast or slow?
Historically, whats the fastest Bond Song? A-Ha's or Duran Duran's?
Personally I'd love something like her William Orbit induced "Ray of Light" as a Bond title song. But then again I really like "Live to Tell".
IF she indeed does a title song I think we'd end up with something like "Frozen" or "Crazy For You".....which would be okay. I just DON'T want to have to endure another "Don't Cry For Me Argentina-like" song that gets beaten to death by the radio stations! Or music as bad as her Dick Tracy album!!!
So.....what do ya'll think?
For those of you who "hate" Madonna.......at least she's not slated to appear in the movie!!!!!! Yet that is.

I think the actual song, regardless of who performs it, is ultimately up to the producers and David Arnold (assuming he writes the music and Don Black does the lyrics), no?

(If that were the case, k.d. lang would have sung the main title song instead of the end credits song....)

Well yeah, but the general feel of the song will (should) be left in Arnold's capable hands. Pacing, yeah... will probably be a Producer call. My bad.

I don't think that B.Broccoli and M.Wilson will have too much say. The key people now are the accountants and executives. These are people who just want a hit pop song above all else to boost the share price of MGM and their share options.Cubby Broccoli would have told this low life what to do with themselves. Now thay have a free run because Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson are too weak and have little standing with the suits.

Well...why does there need to be a song? Why not an orchestral main title?

As a general rule I've preferred the slower title songs (save Live and Let Die)I liked The World is Not Enough, but Sheryl Crow's Tomorrow Never Dies was fairly weak.
I'll take slower Madonna, perhaps in the vein of Frozen from the Ray of Light album.

"heaven, I'm in heaven."Madonna does whatever she wants to do regardless of what the likes of mere film composer David Arnold or the producers think. I mean - thats why she's Madonna!

I first read the subject of the thread and thought what a good thread this might be.... you know, people's own opinions on what they might like in the new Madonna Bond song. Eh, turns out I'm the idiot. What a dumbass thread... and Young Shaun's not even a part of it.Quill, I tend to agree with what you've said. Bond songs often reflect the sign of the times, musically or non-musically. This past year has been a rough one; a fast-paced, intense tune might seem really out of key. Either way, I'm certainly looking forward to whatever's finally polished. Madonna, like U2, has constantly developed her musical sound, and I'm sure will apply some freshness to this project. Looking forward to it.

From www.darkhorizons.com
"Die Another Day (007): The Hollywood Reporter has announced that the title for the Madonna song will not be "Can't You See My Mind", apparently it will be jazz/strings and reminiscent of Sinatra's "I've Got You Under My Skin".

Looks like there's a bit of conflicting info out there - I think DarkHorizons might have flubbed...

Although if you follow the link to the message boards from that link you posted, then you'll find the following lead-off post by the webmaster:quote:
Some details have come together today in regards to the theme song of Die Another Day, to be performed by Madonna. To begin with, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that the title for the song will not be Die Another Day but Can't You See My Mind.
Furthermore, it has been revealed that French composer-arranger, Michel Colombier will arrange the song.As a Madonna fan 'Robster006' has also heard some details on the song. And he tells us in the Die Another Day Forums that Madonna has been "working in the studio on a jazz influenced song with strings and all". The song will reportedly be reminiscent of the classic song I've got you under my skin which was made famous by the other Blue Eyes, Frank Sinatra.

Well, the whole point of the press release we put up on SoundtrackNet was that Michel Colombier was arranging the song..... and according to his own site, the title of the song is "Can't You See My Mind"....
http://www.michelcolombier.com/home.htmOf course, that might have changed....

Oh, yeah. I think they got it wrong about the title, since that whole thread talks about how the title is "Can't you see my mind?" But, it does seem that DH was right about it being in the jazz/strings (?) style. Whatever. I'm quite prepared to wait & see. Film's ages off now.NP Con Passione (McKenzie)

Or apparently not. From Madonna's official site:

Yup, I think that was a good idea. Although I suppose it does also depend upon what the song itself is actually like, so...NP Lawnmower Man 2

Two words: Power balladI want to hear a proper ballad from Madonna, cos the last time I had faith in her music was in 1996 after the fantastic 'You'll See'. Then Ray of Light started her on the slippery slope to electronica blandness, culminating in plain harshness on 2000's 'Music'.
I'm sure the Bond theme will be fantastic though, I want to hear something much like 'This Used to be My Playground'

Just heard a tidbit of what I'm told is the song Die Another Day.Sounds kinda cool. It took me couple of listens before I got used to the seconds "missing" in the song. It kind fades in and out at times. The sample I heard was fast AND slow....pretty cool although Madonna's voice is nowhere to be found.
I can't wait to see the opening credits.

No, the last song was BY Garbage.Anyway...
This is the first time I'm looking forward to hearing a Bond-song in the theatre. Madonna's "Die Another Day" sounds (to me) a lot like her "Music" which I enjoyed. They should install mirrored club-balls on the ceilings in the theatres for the opening credits. Or maybe we should all just get up ala the "Time Warp" during "Rocky Horror".

Personally I think this song kind of makes up for Sheryl Crow's (and Lulu's).
I would have actually chosen to go with a song like "Ray of Light" or "Frozen" instead of cloning "Music".
All that said...I do agree with the sentiment "Where's Shirley Bassey when you need her?"
