First off, Peter K, please leave this thread here on THIS board! Thanks!!
People,
This is a thread Chris Kinsinger and myself instigated many moons ago over at the old FSM board asking which famous people you have personally met whether they were Actors, Writers, Artists, Pop stars, Musicians or 'duhhh' even film composers!
It occured to me that there's a lot of people here at this board who would not have seen that old thread so lets here of your personal experiences!
Here's one of many tales I have to start you off...
Back in 1985 when I was a single man living in shared accomodation, one character who used to drop by to see his musician buddies was trip-hop artist TRICKY, this was before he found fame with Massive Attack and a solo career. to be honest I was never keen on him as he was one ignorant SOB despite the fact that I would always be friendly to him! I always thought he talked rubbish, and when he became famous he sang rubbish and is nought more than a burnt out old drug user! I couldn't believe it when, years later, you had the likes of David Bowie singing his praises, the man is a definite candidate for 'the kings new clothes!'
I should add on a more positive note that I also know members of Massive Attack and Portishead personally, and they are lovely people. Adrian Utley of Portishead is a huge Moorricone fan

NP : coincidently...Good,Bad,Ugly..Expanded - Morricone

Hey Dinko! He gave you some lolypops?
Which flavour? He is fat and a good man? Is his beard for real?
Thank you!

He was a Canadian Santa. Those are too cheap to give lolypops. He was fat alright. But I will reserve judgement as to his personality. I did not meet him for long enough a time to determine whether he was good or bad. Such in-depth study requires more than a few minutes.
His beard looked real. I did not pull on it to make sure.
You're welcome.

Jerry Goldsmith. Awe-inspiring. Got his autograph.Eddie Bracken. Nice guy, funny. Didn't get to say more than "hi." Got his autograph.
James Doohan. William Shatner. I was too young to have any memory of either of them, but I have proof of the incidents with a photo (me w/ Doohan) and an autographed photo from Shatner that says "To young Kirk from old Kirk."
I have some other autographs, too, but I never actually met the people. (I have connections...)

Timmer!
I forgot this one!The first "famous" people I ever met were Ray Harryhausen, Charles Schneer & Beverly Cross. What memories!
The following year, Bonita & I were walking on the streets of New York City, on our way to see Frank Langella's Broadway stage performance in Dracula at the Martin Beck Theatre, when we ran into Nehemiah Persoff! Here's a character actor who has appeared in hundreds of films, and television programs like the original The Twilight Zone! We had a wonderful conversation with him.
The year after that, we were shopping in Georgetown (just outside Washington D.C.), and we ran into Michael Gough! He's best known for playing Alfred the butler in the Batman films (and the On-Star TV commercials!
). I've been a HUGE fan of his since those wonderful Hammer films from the fifties & sixties. Mr. Gough & his wife spent half an hour talking with us, and it was a memorable afternoon![Message edited by Chris Kinsinger on 02-07-2002]

Well, and I don't want to sound high and mighty, but working in the business, I've met actually more than I can actually remember. But to name some of the bigger ones...Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Will Smith, Liam Neeson, Sandra Bullock, Brendon Fraser (several times), Sigourney Weaver, Steven Segal, Jean Claude VanDamme, and others.
All of them I've met and worked with on set. Except Arnold, that was a T2 convention.

Denzel Washington is about it. I was an extra on Courage Under Fire and I was doing a scene (that got cut) where I walked past him about 15 times. It was just wonderful. He's pretty tall as far as most actors go. The asst. director said we couldn't talk to him or ask him for autographs, but sometimes the director would yell cut when we were about two feet apart, and one time I heard him say "Can we get out of here already?" as if to say he had enough of walking down a street in the middle of winter. That made him a real person to me.

In once walked into John "Q" DeLancie at a Star Trek Convention in Olympia, Washington. I was walking out of the toilet, as he and some bodyguards approached. He smiled at me, and I asked him very kindly for an autograph.
His bodyguards said no, but he insisted and gave it to me in the toilet
Then I met Jay Chattaway, while I was studying in LA, back in 93. Real nice guy. A friend of his noticed that I bought only score cds, and she said she knew him.

Oliver Stone - Held a Q & A session at my school, met him afterwards. Didn't have anything for him to sign, sadly, but he did borrow my pen.Spike Lee - saw him speak, if that counts, wasn't too impressed. I think he was drunk.
Heather Locklear - Walked by her once in a store. Was shocked at how small she was.
Billy Joel - Was young and don't really remember it. It was at a hot dog stand or something.
John Williams - Never met him, but back in high school, a friend of mine had met him at a wedding, and gotten an autograph.

Oh yeah I forgot about John Corigliano. He came to talk about The Red Violin, about a month after he won the Oscar. I brought a camera to take a picture with him, which I did, but I was expecting him to bring his Oscar. It was nice hearing how he composed the music, and just to shake the hand of an Oscar winner!

Let me tell you all again about the wonderful celebrities I've met-London, circa 1986, getting on the tube at Regents Park station, I was going down in the lift with my friend Shuggy, and the other guy in the lift was wearing a poncho and had grey hair and a beard. Shuggy nudged me and said "Oh my God!" It was his hero, ROLF HARRIS. So he grabbed him by the poncho and screamed "Rolf, Rolf, this is the greatest moment of my entire life, it's like meeting Walt Disney!" At which point Rolf replied (detecting the Scottish accent) "What's the difference between Dean Martin and Walt Disney? Dean Martin drinks and Walt disnae." Then he signed our tube tickets.
Living in Ealing, round about the same time, I went for a beer at a bar, and to hear the live jazz. At the end of the session, the compere said "and a big hand for DEREK WADSWORTH on trombone!" Well, I nearly choked on my pint. I got him aside and told him that he had done the music for the second season of Space: 1999, but he already knew that. I then asked him about his thoughts on SF scores like Alien, but he seemed to be wanting to get away. He was still very gracious though.
And again in London, I had a beer next to JOHN HURT. He was really wasted, and so didn't recognize me.

I work at an entertainment news show on the BBC as a VT editor, but because of my love of movies, I occasionally get sent out to do a few interviews. Here's my list:UK Premiere of Any Given Sunday:
AL PACINO - Grabbed him as he walked past. When I looked into his eyes I froze and he laughed (the Scent of a Woman bark), which was nice. A tad taller than I thought. It freaked me out looking into his eyes... "it's Al-freakin'-Pacino!"
OLIVER STONE - As he approached I saw him reach out his hand. I thought he was going to shake mine. I felt my hand touch his but then realised he was just steadying himself on the partition. I stood there for a few moments just touching Oliver Stone's hand, too scared to move mine. He gave a long answer and was very serious.
Junket for SWORDFISH:JOHN TRAVOLTA - Ultra-professional, very charming. So weird to be sitting there and talking to him. Nice guy!
HUGH JACKMAN - Great. Really likeable and down-to-earth (the friendliest celeb I've met). He kept popping out to see his wife and new son who were in the next room. Awwwww...
HALLE BERRY - Stunning. Okay, I'll admit it, I couldn't help staring at her "berries". Her answers were so short I ran out of questions and just sat there with a big dumb smile on my face. She called me by my name when I passed her in the corridor about an hour later. Groooovy.
DOMINIC SENA and JOEL SILVER - Sena seemed a little wired, and Joel Silver was a little cold, but he brightened up when I told him my all-time fave film was Die Hard.
Junket for The Fast and The Furious:VIN DIESEL - Intense. Spoke very slowly. Had a soft handshake. Took himself very seriously!
PAUL WALKER - Friendly guy. Didn't like it when I referred to him as a "pretty boy". Still, he was pleasant enough.
Composers, at work:DAVID ARNOLD - He came onto our show when Shaft was released. Chatted to him for about 30 mins after the show and he signed loads of CD's for me. He even gave me a promo of the unreleased Shaft score. Very dry sense of humour. Cool guy.
ELLIOT GOLDENTHAL - Another work interview. What a serious guy. Friendly, though. A tad pretentious. Signed CD's and chatted about scoring stories on Heat and a few others. Interesting man!
JERRY GOLDSMITH - At the London Film Festival, promoting The Edge. He signed my copy of the soundtrack. Another intense looking fanboy stared at him and said "Thank you for The Omen". Jerry looked scared.
JOHN LANDIS, DAVID NAUGHTON and GRIFFIN DUNNE are going to be on the show in a few weeks for the UK DVD release of American Werewolf, and I'm hoping to corner them for a chat. Hell, I may ask John Landis how he managed to go downhill so fast in the 90's!
Also, I've met MICHAEL KAMEN several times. He even let me sit in when he scored an episode of Band of Brothers. We're still in contact by e-mail. He's a great guy, but he's got a terrible memory!

Hmmmm, Most of the people I've met will only be known to our British friends.
I walked right past Russ Abbott and his bodyguard in Covent Garden once. It was a heck of a coincidence as I was just visiting the city for the day.
I got autographs from a few British celebs during a Pro/Am Golf tournament. Among them were Johnny Briggs (Mike Baldwin) Gareth Hunt(Steed from "The Professionals") and Lance Percival (The chef from "Carry on Cruising")
I have Norman Wisdom's autograph but unfortunately never met him ...my friend got it for me.
I spent a week's work placement at "Cosgrove Hall" where I spent a lot of time in the company of Jackie Cosgrove. She was responsible for the children's programme "Cockleshell Bay" and the company made "Dangermouse" and "Wind in the Willows". It was a real privelege to witness the animation being done and the sets and models for Toad and Toad Hall were just wonderful to experience. I will always regret turning down a job opportunity offered to me there.
Back in the late 70's I went to see a stunt show where the cars were driven around an arena on two wheels and driven in reverse while doing a forward spin and continuing to drive. I spoke to the stunt driver and mentioned that I had seen those stunts performed in "Diamonds are Forever" and "The Man with the Golden Gun". Anyway, it only turned out that he was the guy who had actually done those very stunts for the films...dont know his name, but I feel really lucky to have met someone connected with a couple of the Bond movies.Gae

HAHAHA! Gae, along the same lines (mostly British celebs), I saw Henry Cooper (most famous for decking Ali, then known as Cassius Clay before getting stopped on cuts!) and Barry Sheen signing cans of Brute 33 in a Lewis's store in the mid 70's! Horror writer James Herbert at a book signing, he signed my copy of The Dark and was only too happy to have a chat! Also met Ingrid Pitt at a film memorabilia show in Birmingham, she was lovely and though getting on in years still looked vibrant and attractive!Walked past 'Countdown's' Carol Voorderman on Regent Street last year...much daintier than you'd imagine

I will drop all the Finnish Celebrities (with whom I have shared some adventures, not only conversations) out from this - and I won't even tell you why my godmother's sister is quite world-famous in her work. But I can tell you that when JERRY GOLDSMITH was at Oulu Film Festival 1993 in Finland, we both lived in the same (small) hotel for the weekend - and after a nice conversation with him on the specific Sunday I even ended up being on the same flight (back to Helsinki) with him.
At Oulu Film Festival 1993 I also bumped into the actor MICHAEL ROOKER (Cliffhanger, JFK) on the same specific Sunday. I had purchased his "JFK" bag during an auction the previous night, and he was very happy knowing that traditions continued with his ex-bag when I told him that I had smuggled some hamburgers and Coca-Cola into my hotel room in the bag.
Not precisely an encounter with a Celebrity, but surely the most funniest thing REGARDING a Celebrity ever happened to me took place in Dublin, Ireland, in the spring 1998. I was returning to the hotel with my family, when a television crew picked me and my brother for an interview - and my blabbing must have been quite interesting thing for the cameraman and the interviewer because they didn't notice that GREGORY PECK himself was walking just a few steps away from us.

One more thing - JERON !! Talk, damn you !!!

My mom worked in an antique store so some celebrities collecting old toys came in while filming movies in Minnesota. But I've met Emilio Estevez (my friend's cousin was his skate-double for Mighty Ducks), Timothy Hutton, Rosie O'Donnell, Matt Dillon, Winona Ryder, Walter Mathou and a bunch of people when I was little. I met Skeemer (sp?) from the old TV show Shining Time Station. Actually I met the whole cast. And there was this famous chimp in Missouri. She was the star of a show there. It got a little friendly with me and gave me a giant kiss. I wont go into detail of what happened after that.......

I forgot a few! Alec Baldwin, Eric Roberts and Teri Hatcher. They were filming a scene for Heaven's Prisoners at a plantation I was taking a tour of and the tour guide was new and got lost. She took us into a restricted room that was restricted because they were filming the movie. Eric Roberts was like half naked because he was boxing in that scene or something... Goran gave me some tickets to watch him play and asked if I wanted to see a film that evening.
He actually lost in the 1st round and so wasn't very happy. He said that he liked to watch action films before he played in order to hype himself up.
Anyway, we went to see 'Interview With a Vampire'. We sat in the back row close to the aisle so that he could stretch out his legs. He told me that Croatian theatres were more built more spaciously to accomodate long-legged people.
During the film when Brad Pitt finished devouring a rat with bloodied face - Goran leaned across and whispered in my ear (with Croatian accent) "youuu like???".
