Interesting cd. I like the music Kamen composed for it. Half of the cd though is pretty repetitive. It's the techno beat from Orbital. It reappears frequently throughtout the cd. Sometimes on it's own, sometimes actually over Kamen's music. I do listen to this cd. It's fun at times. Depends on my mood. I'd just like to have all of Kamen's music by itself though. That I like.

I like this one, and I think a review in FSM when it came out really summed up perfectly my thoughts on the score....it's not the best work Kamen has done, and probably not the best Orbital has done, but the sum of their work is very good.

Nice to hear horror scoring from Kamen again, and I like the 'suite' format of the album(2 long suites, and two shorter bookending cues).
There is some great action work here as well, sans techno, but mostly eerie suspense string and brass writing.
Does anyone know what the 'choral' lyrics are?

Rod Serling and Bernard Herrmann are thanked in the notes, although their names are misspelled

    Ciao,
    Sean

    50¢ frisbee...

Kamen's music is good (frenetic and suspenseful), but you can't hear it. The CD would have had potential had the volume of the Orbital noise been lower. It's pretty lame noise too. Orbital have done some nice things, this is not one of them. The least inspired techno-influenced soundtrack I've ever heard.

If you can have it cheap (as in really cheap) go for it. I wouldn't pay full price for this piece of junk if I were you.

And it would have been nice to have the score alone. Or at least on a level more like in the movie. I seem to remember that in the movie, the dance tracks were quieter.

LOL, Hadrian, what prompted you to ask about Event Horizon??

My thoughts echo that of Chris' post above. It's a fun CD... I'm also a big techno fan, so fusing Orbital with Kamen's dark orchestral mass is a great thing. It's definitely a CD you've gotta be in the mood for... on the upside, my roommate just notified me that while she normally enjoys dark music, this stuff actually disturbs her. Nifty, huh?

LOL indeed. JohnZ was playing it while he was repsonding to the other topic. And I've always been partially to good orchestral/techno fusion music. So voila.
My friend would prolly like it also. He's a Metal maniac with a touch of Goth in him.

Well I liked it. The techno, to me added to the suspensfulness under or is it over Kamen's score, and actually works with the film, so don't think of it as only a remix album of Kamen's score. I think the problem some may find is that the CD is cut in 4 long suites, so you may have to wait awhile before you get to the highligts of each track. But I love on the left hand, love long tracks.
You can hear a few simularites to Event Horizon's orchestral section in The Matrix.

I like the part the chorus sings:
    "EX EX ÉT GOLDSMITH ÉX!"

Liked the score to Event Horizon. Then I bought the CD. Let's just say I'm not a fan of a CD that has a 18 minute track with the main title at the very ****ing end. It's also funny that Kamen thanks Herrmann and the spelling is wrong.

Does anyone know what they're really saying in the Orbit sections? It sounds like they're talking about a Boogie Superman.

    Anyone?

Sounds like ET THE BOOGIE, ET, THE ET

It's funny how the mind attatches certain words to indecipherable lyrics, and then you're 'stuck' with them from that point on......

Forgot to mention at the end of track 2 I think, there is a great, furious action piece for the airlock sequence, one of the most intense bits Kamen may have done

I wish this film would get a directors cut on DVD someday, since around 30mins. were lopped off the first half, and who knows what else was meddled with in the rest of the film. I wish I could be more specific, but this film was the victim of.....Studio Meddling!(insert musical stinger)

    Ciao,
    Sean

There is a special edition coming out this summer. I don't know all of the details, but I believe it's also a director's cut. Someone else here may know. But it is a special edition release with supplemental material.

    Yahhhh!!

    Grazia Sebulba

So sue me, but I like this film, thought it has some nice, scary visceral images.

I hope the director, whose name escapes me, contributes a scathing commentary!(Yeah, right )

Great news, and I'd love to learn more about how Kamen and Orbital worked together....and maybe they'll restore his end title, instead of that awful song!

The movie gave me some good scare. and the music undoubtedly provided some of that. Paul Anderson (the director) had something special there, until the studio stepped in. He's doing Resident Evil next with Marco Beltrami AND MARILYN MANSON!!!!!! This has got to be one of the more interesting score to come.

    o.k. Here it is....

    1.12.02 EVENT HORIZON

While promoting his soon-to-be released Resident Evil film at the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors, director Paul Anderson mentioned that he will be working on a special edition DVD of 1997's Event Horizon. Expect to finally see the loads of deleted footage that was edited out of the final release. No release date was given for the disc.

I also liked this film and can't wait to see the extra footage.

I'll believe all this about RESIDENT EVIL when I see it, since the project has been all over the place(what happened to Romero/Morricone!?!?), and we all know about the last 'collaboration' MManson did with a composer(FROM HELL...was reportedly replacing the score, ended up contributing one song if I recall)

    Sean,

Word is that RESIDENT EVIL was completed back in December, and Beltrami did INDEED work with Manson.

    Surrrrrrrre he did!lol

    J/k

Well, I'm relieved it's done then.....disappointed that George Romero didn't get to work with Morricone on it, but it should be decent.....I hope

Beltrami and Manson are pretty heavy techno, so I wonder if there will be any orchestra involved at all....any details?

Well, just chaulk it up under the category of "what if!" films. You know, like Oliver Stone directing PLANET OF THE APES, or Michael Bay directing SUPERMAN LIVES. Sure it was gonna happen at some point (they were attached, and moving forward) but it just didn't work out.

No details yet, but I know an orchestra was involved.....

From various reviews on movie website, I'd say they might have. I'll see it anyway. It would make for a good popcorn flick though.
