Hey kids,

Does any one know if Serra's score to this very cool looking film will be released any time soon?

--Brian

PS: The film comes out Feb 8th.

HA! Good luck!

For some reason Virgin Music loves Serra. Maybe they'll pick it up. (yeah, right... )

I have grave doubts about this film based on the promos I have seen. It looks like they canned everything from the original except the futuristic sports angle.

No corporate oligarchy, no dystopian struggle, no veiled warnings about the corrupting influence of multinational corporations, no rediscovery of the power of the individual vs. the collective. In short, most of things that made the original such a thought provoking piece are missing.

Too bad. With the Enron debacle and other corporate shenanigans this would have been a timely reminder about exactly who is running what and why we should be paying better attention to our corporate “citizens”.

Yeah... key word being "looking". The film seems to be a real stinker, regardless of how "cool" it looks.

As for a score release, nothing yet, but don't expect it.

Someone bring back the McTiernan from the late 1980s.... please.....

Hey, Die Hard with a Vengence was great fun!!!

Then there was The 13th Warrior (which was partly him, you can't deny that) and the atrocious Thomas Crown Affair.

McTiernan's career started to decline with MEDICINE MAN and THE LAST ACTION HERO. While he's had a few temporary bursts of creative exhuberance, he has, for the most part, gone the way of his AMAZING cinematographer, Jan de Bont.

I have no intention of seeing Rollerball. All the significant elements of the original are gone, which is a shame, because they are more relevant now then ever before.
As for John McTiernan, he's still one of my favorite directors. He's one of the very few directors interested in encouraging the audience to participate in the film experience as opposed to letting them sit back and enjoy the "ride". I enjoyed 13th Warrior and I had a great time with Thomas Crown. He's totally capable of making great movies. He just needs to get better projects.

I never saw this as a movie in need of a remake. Considering how little of the original premise was maintained, why didn't they just call it something like Football: The Next Generation.

That would have been as easily as relevant and since the original Rollerball sport was cross breed of Football and Rollerderby it would even have been appropriate.

That's too bad...but then again, that may be pretty good. Beyond the action of the game, this is what made this film a standout for me. Maybe the original film is getting too close to home, what with AOL/TimeWarner/ATT/WB/JoesBarandGrill and the like.

I can't remember who's releasing it, but me thinks it's hitting a little too close to home for a huge mega-corporation to remake a film that criticizes huge mega-corporations.

BTW, what's with McTiernan lately. He hasn't made a decent film since Hunt for Red October. Instead, he gets fired from one film, then remakes two other films. Seems like he's becoming a hack...

Sorry guys, but everytime I see the commercial for Rollerball, I get pissed....this is a totally uncessary film, and I hope it dies a fast, merciless death at the B.O.
Is it because the original is one of my favorite films? Probably.
I just wish Hollywood would get their nuts out of a vice, and come up with something original, besides these damned remakes.
If you want good popcorn entertainment, go rent an Errol Flynn movie(I recommend Capt.Blood,The Sea Hawk or Robin Hood...what's more, you'll get some good music with those films.)

Just had to rant, and can't wait until this goes away...then I'll have to contend with the Scooby Doo film, and that dumbass Matthew Lilliard's mugging

R.I.P Film...

Kicking this back to the top so people who saw this movie can tell me if I guessed correctly that this would be a huge piece of dung that dealt with none of the issues the first movie did.

Oh yeah, how was the music?

I have this score.

It is more techno-crap. I actually enjoy parts of Goldeneye (!), but I can't listen to this score all the way through. It's bad.
