One of them is Taras Bulba! I have a large suite from it and its awsome. I've been planing on getting the full score but I've never got around to it. Guess I'm almost out of time now!

I think all of their Barry albums are must-haves, but then, I'm just a Barry nut!

Get The Greatest Story Ever Told, although they could have made it a 2 disc set if they really wanted to. Thats my only complaint about Ryko, their sequencing of discs.

I'll be keeping both eyes open for "Carrie" and "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World".

I was trying to sell by Octopussy. Now I'm keeping mine! I wonder who would be interested in re-releasing the other Bond scores like A View to A Kill?

I thought Elmer Gantry was pretty good as well as Irma La Douce.Judgment at Nuremberg is excellent and one of the few Ernest Gold scores available.
Magnificent Seven and Return of the Magnificent Seven are clear must have for Bernstein fans.
For lovers of the odd, I would recommend After the Fox and What's New Pussycat.
A Bridge Too Far and Battle of Britain are essential for people who love British composers and good war film scores.
Taras Bulba Franz Waxman Action Music. No other recommendation needed for Waxman fans.
They did excellent digital remaster work on all of their releases and while some of the choices were a little odd, I will certainly try to lay my hands on any I dont have. For most of these films, this was and will be the definitive release, unlike the also lamented Chapter III who basically just did some minor restoration on the original LP tapes.
At least these scores have been converted digital and mastered so that the recordings will exist and not be lost like so many scores from the Golden Age. Of the companies doing this kind of work, FSM, Rhino Handmade, BYU, Prometheus and Intrada, Ryko was certainly in a good crowd and did work of that quality.
So I say Bravo! to Ryko. You will be missed by this fan.

When I heard that the Ryko discs were going OOP a few days ago I ordered 6 that I've wanted for some time. I suspect quite a few other people are doing the same.Maybe if we'd all bought the discs that we wanted at an earlier stage, Ryko would have continued issuing soundtrack releases and they would not be deleting their soundtrack catalogue.
Just a thought!.

I'd love to be able to buy the whole thing.
Peter G.: Well, I have to admit I waited until the end to buy the Chapter III releases... I still have an order in for the Ryko album of The Knack..., and I hope Barnes and Noble will be able to fill it. I guess I won't be surprised if they can't find a copy.
I recall reading at the label's website that the Ryko/MGMUA catalog was intended to be for a "limited time," anyhow.

633 SQUADRON was released on CD along with Goodwin's score to WHERE EAGLES DARE in 1990. I've only seen this once on Ebay. Love to have one.

My only regret about Ryko's soundtrack series is that, on most releases, instead of giving us a proper booklet -- with pages bound together by staples -- they provided those bloody awful table-top-sized road-maps that had to be folded and unfolded.A word of advice to other record labels: DO NOT EMULATE THIS FEATURE OF RYKO RELEASES.

Agreed Perpicth. Those "booklets" did leave a lot to be desired. But I seldom ever bothered to unfold them after the first time through the liner notes, so they only annoyed me once.

I hate the "roadmap" inserts, too. By the end of the series, they had finally smartened up. Battle of Britain has a normal booklet. At least Ryko gave us the track listings on the back without too much mutilation of the cover art on the front. Chapter III went way off with their huge, ugly banner/logo obstructing much of the LP art. We also can't forget the major mistake of hiding the track list of their "double features" inside of the booklet.
