For me, I like at least one song of every kind of music, even rap and opera. I almost bought an Ozzy Osbourne CD the other night, but I ordered it from the library instead. The song of "Dreamer" I really like, mostly because it brings back a good memory from stuff I did Saturday night. And my Shakira CD is playing right now. How about you?

Besides movie scores, I love Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) - which is among the best of the world - specially from Caetano Veloso, Giberto Gil, Marisa Monte and, of course, Tom Jobim.I also dig Pink Floyd (who doesn't?), Beetles, Supertramp, Queen.
Not to mention Jazz (specially Fusion), Blues, Rap (just like Goldsmith!) and some New Age stuff.
And, of course, classical music...

Mainly progressive heavy metal and hard rock - many of the bands that ManOfSorrows listed and more. Speaking of which, the leader of one of my favorite bands of this genre, Chuck Schuldiner of the group Death, passed away from an inoperable brain tumor just before Christmas last year. He was only 34 years old. My profile lists my favorite bands. In addition to metal, I also like Tori Amos, Jeffrey Gaines, Del Amitri, Frank Zappa and a lot of the "art rock" bands from the 70s and 80s such as Rush and Yes, and the "arena rock" bands like Styx and Journey.

Too many individual groups to list, but my tastes run from oldies to "acid" rock, country to classical.I've got Garth Brooks sitting next to Boston, sitting next to Beethoven.
I never got into heavy metal, nor rap (if it could be called music) or anything really new. I do like a little Sheryl Crow, and I have Natalie Imbruglia's albumn with the song "Torn" on it. Otherwise, lots of film music, rock, and classics.
In fact, in my player right now is the remastered "Disraeli Gears" by Cream.

Well, Sheila, I like a little rap (very little) and it's only what some would call hip-hop or pop-rap (i.e. C & C Music Factory, Will Smith, LL Cool J, Hammer, you know...the relatively harmless stuff). To be honest, I despise most Rap.
I also like country as long as there is not too much twang and depression in it.
R & B is also appreciated, but as a rule, the older stuff back to the 70's and earlier is better than most in the last couple of decades. This includes Blues as well. I have always liked Funk and Disco a lot.
When it comes to world music, I have collected an extensive amount of it with the most CDs coming from Russian/Ukrainian, Latin, Reggae, African, Italian, French, Japanese, and the Middle East. There are more, but these are the largest in my collection. I'm sure no one counts music from the USA, UK (with the exception of Celtic music, of which I have a lot), or Canada as "world music" do they?
Next is classical and this includes all variants from the early part of the last millennium to modern classical. Although I have and like so very much, the preferred age is that of the Renaissance period.
Jazz and Fusion are also wonderful forms of music which I have been collecting more extensively in recent months than in the past. The more I buy, the more I get in to this form of music. The BET JAZZ channel has helped me discover many artists (especially from the past) that have become desireable to collect on CD. Thank goodness for compilations that feature the "best" of each performer's music. It really helps on the purse!
Then comes Rock and Pop. I love it all!!! The 50's, 60's, 70's and especially the 80's & 90's from when I was a little girl to my teen years. Although the 80's were better than the 90's IMHO. For some reason, with some exceptions, most of the newer bands are not impressing me as much as the music from the 50's to the mid-90's. Hey, does this mean I'm getting old?
Oh yes, and then there is filmscores, televison scores, musicals, and cartoon music! My favorites!!! But then, everyone knows about that, don't they?the filmscore gal,
Galina

Mmmmmm'.
Aside from film scores, I like Ben Folds Five, Aimee Mann, New Radicals, Leonardo's Bride and Harry Connick Jr. on the band-ish front, but I'm also a huge lover of Jazz (Dave Brubeck in particular). Classical music goes down well sometimes too, mainly during the semester when I need to listen as a part of my course when I listen to a wide range from Gregorian chants to 20th century, though I quite enjoy the works of Shostakovich.NP: Ocean's 11 - David Holmes

I like just about everything except for Heavy Metal and Country: too much noise on the one side, not enough on the other.Still, despite liking Classical, Rock, Jazz, and even avant-garde electronics, film music still reigns above all.
I'd give you names of favorites, but there're too many greats to list.

Underground Hip-Hop, if you're interested, pick up "Boom Bap Project"Hardcore Rap (not that Jay-Z shiet), interested, pick up a Three 6 Mafia or Twista album.
Electronica, interested? Pick up a Paul van Dyk or DJ Tiesto mix.
Classical, well...everyone would school me on that subject but i'm really into Mozart.
I've recently just got into making my own music on my computer. I'm not that great yet...but give me a couple of months and maybe i could compose a soundtrack to a short film or something.

First and foremost, I listen to classical music. I've got far more classical CDs in my collection than soundtracks. I basically have everything, from Gregorian Chant to cutting edge electronic experimental music.
Then I also got some jazz CDs in my collection. I don't actually have a lot of rock/pop/hiphop music in my CD collection, since I get that (sometimes more than) enough going out or listening to the radio.

Good topic!I think that many 'film score people' tend to like just about everything, since film scores encompass just about every type of music known to man.
I love all music, except rap(unless it's instrumental!lol). My faves are ELO, Tangerine Dream, Philip Glass, George Jones, Jo Stafford, Frank Sinatra, Pet Shop Boys, Metallica, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Elis Regina(Hey Andre!), Mike Oldfield, Mike Nyman, Steve Reich, Pink Floyd(of course!), Led Zep, Portishead, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, The Cramps(yes!!!),The Doors, Duran Duran, Thompson Twins, Cab Calloway, Blondie, Berlin, Giorgio Moroder, The Eagles, anything 80's and synthy....and, how could I forget THE BEATLES!!!!
Then ya got yer classical and opera...Beethoven,Tchaikovsky,Mozart,Bach, Rimsky-Korsakov,Prokoviev,Bartok,Ravel,Debussy - there are too many to mention....also avant-garde weirdness...Penderecki,Constant,Schoenberg,Varese,Xenaxis,Ligeti
As far as opera goes, I love it all, but Verdi is the KING in my book!
Sorry to make this a laundry list, but what are threads like this for?
Music is what makes life worth living!Best,

Apart from film/TV scores, I've got a lot of classical music with the emphasis on Richard Wagner, and American classical, mainly Copeland, Gershwin, Hanson, L. Bernstein, Grofe, L. Anderson, etc.For a change of pace, my other extreme is country music, something to get you boot-scooting out the door in the morning! My concentration there is mainly female country & western vocalists, ranging from the 40's to the present day.
I also maintain a smaller collection of mainly 50's & 60's instrumental pop, with a lot of Duane Eddy, The Ventures, The Shadows, some exotica (Martin Denny), some lounge, a fair collection of Ray Conniff, Doris Day, Nancy Sinatra, and Glenn Miller to boot!
No matter what the time of day or what mood I'm in, I've got something to cater for it!

Classical (most importantly Anton Bruckner of course, of whom I've just today I added 20 CDs to my collection); mostly from Beethoven onwards. And I love the Rolling Stones.I like to believe that I respect all good music, and try to enjoy most of it, but I find most (not all!) of today's popuplar music to be not good. My focus is mainly on film scores and classical though, so the rest has a rather small part in my collection.

I forgot to mention that I'm also a great fan of good computer game scores. There's a lot of GREAT music from C64 and Amiga games out there - not at all what people usually consider "typical computer beep music", those systems had great sound chips. A particular favourite is Chris Hülsbeck (started writing music for German games and now has done several Star Wars game scores for LucasArts). And nearly all of the LucasArts games have excellent music as well (most notably TIE Fighter and Grim Fandango).NP: Anton Bruckner: Symphony #5 (Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Georg Tintner)

Jazz, I'd say, mostly post-50s. Amazing how so many composers/ performers of something which is intrinsically free-style have adapted so well to the constraints of film. And amazing too how they are so good at non-jazz scores. Do I have to name names?

Does Trevor Rabin count? Oh wait I don't listen to him.

a simple question - with a LOT of answers; I grew up listening to classical music and I do have a lot of 20th Century classical music (Glass, Adams, Nyman) - rock n' roll/pop - I had the usual diet of Beatles/Stones along with Nugent/Pink Floyd/Van Halen, although I don't have any of it in my collection anymore (well, exceptions for The Beatles and Pink Floyd)... most of what I listen to currently is still a mixture, but not so much with 'mainstream' groups...American Music Club/Mark Eitzel; The Billy Nayer Show; David Baerwald; Dieselhed; Ed's Redeeming Qualities; The Fibonaccis; Clubfoot Orchestra; Kelly Hogan/Jody Grind; House of Freaks; Laika and the Cosmonauts; Los Straightjackets; Glass Eye/K. McCarty; Naked Barbies/Vagabond Lovers; The Rezillos/Revillos; Stan Ridgeway/Wall of Voodoo; The Smithereens; Tarnation/Paula Frazer; Soul Coughing; They Might Be Giants; X

I listen to a ton of classical music.some jazz, some rock.
Rock I like includes U2, Radiohead, Dave Matthews (very hit and miss with me).most rock/ pop you can keep. In the 80s it was all about fun -- excess cheese, but still fun; in the 90s it's all about....well, something I guess.
A lot of bitching and moaning about relationships gone awry. eh.but anymore, film scores are the way I go.

I too grew up with 80s music, so I like Journey, Chicago, etc. Does Jock Jams count as Rap or what? I used to hate that kind of music, but ever since I have been going to the baseball games here, and they play those songs, so I grew into it and actually love it now. Brings back good (and a few bad) memories I guess.
