    Alien 3
    School Ties

All good choices if you ask me....

    Small Soldiers
Great Goldsmith score, plays very well as an album.

    Alien 3
Essential, but hope you like your 20th century, modernist film scores.

    School Ties
I'm a big Jarre fan, and like this, especially the 16min. suite 'David'. The oldies songs are nice additions too, and the theme is nice.

Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire
Great album, maligned by most people as being generic, but the action writing is thunderous, the chorus is huge, and there are good themes.

    Clockers
Haven't heard this one, but Blanchard is a good composer...

A Maurice Jarre Trilogy: 2CD set with The Damned/Season in Hell and For those I Loved
Again, I'm biased on this one, but Season in Hell is very nice, good melodies and nice percussion. The Damned is pretty heady stuff, quite atonal, although the lullaby breaks up the hard stuff nicely.

    Heat
More bias...I love well done synths, and this album gets tons of play for me, combining Goldenthal's trademark synth/orchestra modernism with some great electonica song tracks.

    Hope this helps a smidge!

Thanks, so basically they are all good. Unfortunetly I can't afford all of them .

I also forgot the mention Othello by Goldenthal, but the soundclips sound really great. I think I'll keep that one in no matter what.

I would go for Shadows of the Empire (a wonderful cd that gets constant play in my drive), and Small Soldiers. The last track is one of my fav Goldsmith tracks ever

Alien3 is easy to find in cut-out bins, I got mine for 3 bucks. Don't spend too much on it.

If you have to skip any, I would, begrudingly, skip the 2cd Jarre set, but DEFINATELY ABSOLUTELY get OTHELLO!!!!!

I was playing this again yesterday, it's a mind bending 70mins. of complex music, that may very well have been for a movie.

    You won't regret it Tim!!!

Oooo! Don't skip the Jarre CD. There is an incredible lullaby in Season in Hell that reminds me a lot of the way that Goldsmith used the waltz form in Boys from Brazil to display the depravity of the third reich. It is extremely creepy. But I love Jarre, so I may be biased.

I don't know Clockers or Heat, but I have passed on both before.

Shadows doesn't do a whole lot for me. It's nice but not better than William's Star Wars stuff. (In other words, if Star Wars is the goal, go with Williams)

Alien 3 is pretty damned good. If you are at all partial to Goldenthal, you better grab this.

One of the scores on the Jarre 2CD features a theme that Jarre would use again in Firefox. Unfortunately, I can't remember which score. And it is also unfortunate that the theme is not the main theme from Firefox. It would make me so happy if Jarre or someone would either assemble a suite of original music from Firefox or re-record the theme for a compilation...

For the record, Season in Hell IS the best of the three scores on that set, and is also available in an expanded edition from Cinevox, which I still need to replace my old Alhambra cd....hey, they made soundtracks in Germany and water over here! Huzzah!

Granted, Season in Hell is the best score there, but it is good enough that even if the others were dogs, which I don't think they are, I would still reccomend it over Clockers and Heat.
