    New poll. Don't freak out!

How many soundtracks did you buy in 2001? The next best question after such a poll would be Of the soundtracks you bought in 2001, which one are you listening to the most?.

Or, of all the soundtracks released, which do you think is the ultimate very best one? Include new soundtracks, reissues, whatever.

Let's hear from everyone, thank you!

36 (I voted in the wrong spot ), and I included the few I received as gifts:

    The Age of Innocence
    A.I.
    Amelie
    Andre
    Atlantis
    Band of Brothers
    A Beautiful Mind
    Bound
    Brazil
    Cats & Dogs
    Cleopatra
    East-West
    Fairy Tale: A True Story
    Felicia's Journey
    Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
    From Hell
    Harry Potter
    Heart of Darkness
    Hearts in Atlantis
Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back
    Jurassic Park 3
    The Last Castle
    Legend (Goldsmith)
The Lord of the Rings: FOTR
    The Mexican
    The Mists of Avalon
    Muuch Ado about Nothing
    The Mummy Returns
    The Omen: Deluxe Edition
    The Others
    Planet of the Apes (Elfman)
    Plunkett & Macleane
    The Princess Diaries
    Scream 3
    Shrek
    The 10th Kingdom

    And if compilations count:
The Film Music of Jerry Goldsmith

I bought far more CDs than I realized, and I'm pretty sure I didn't get them all. And when you factor in all the classical or otherwise non-film-score CDs I purchased... that's a lot of money I could be saving for more important things. I try not to think about it...

What I('ve) listen(ed) to the most:

    Amelie
    Atlantis
    Brazil
    Final Fantasy
    Harry Potter
    Legend
    Lord of the Rings
    The 10th Kingdom

I'm still listening to LOTR the most, I think. Which do I think is the best one? I can't make that decision. In the case of a few of these CDs, I've still only skimmed the surface and have yet to listen to them in-depth.

Too many. If I count them, I'll have to think of the cash I spent, and my hair will go all white from the shock.

Of the soundtracks you bought in 2001, which one are you listening to the most?.
    All the Pretty Horses

Way, way too many. I picked up 51 in December alone. See my entries in the "What's New In...." threads.

Oddly enough, the CDs I played most in 2001 weren't new ones. For some reason (I forget what), I kept a tally of what I listened to, and these are the top end results.

3=: AIR FORCE ONE, DEEP RISING, EXECUTIVE DECISION, THE FURY, THE MATRIX, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2 (score).

    2=: ALIEN, SOLDIER.

    1: RENT-A-COP.

What? How did that happen? Rent-A-Cop!?! I can't explain that one at all...

Probably under 20. I do not yet have an opinion on best one. Most listened to probably the score of Tomb Raider

How many did I get? Don't know, but not many, a very conservative 20 or 25, probably.

The one I listen to the most? Don't know, but I'm continually drawn to Final Fantasy, though I don't know if it's the best.

After some two years of NOT purchasing soundtracks almost at all, I stumbled upon MovieMusic com on a summer's day 2001 - and the rest is history in my book.

I haven't actually purchased so much, but TRADED a lot and received many many of my most wanted wants from a bunch of friendly people.

My most listened PURCHASED soundtrack of the year
is definitely the MOULIN ROUGE song album.

Of all the traded material I like listening most to
(- and all you friendly people out there, as you may recognize your stuff here, Warmest Thanks again to all of you for providing these to me -)
    HEARTBEEPS (John Williams)
    BABY'S DAY OUT (Bruce Broughton)
SUPERMAN, THE MOVIE (2CD Complete; John Williams)
    RETURN TO OZ (David Shire)
    GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY (Jerry Goldsmith)
    CATS & DOGS (John Debney)
    HOCUS POCUS (John Debney)
    JAWS 3-D (Alan Parker)
DRACULA: DEAD AND LOVING IT (Hummie Mann)
MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET (Bruce Broughton)
THE BOY WHO COULD FLY (Bruce Broughton)
    THE PARENT TRAP (Alan Silvestri)
    THE BLACK CAULDRON (Elmer Bernstein)
    THE ACCIDENTAL TOURIST (John Williams)
    STANLEY & IRIS (John Williams)
THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK (John Williams)
    MONSIGNOR (John Williams)
    MY FAVORITE MARTIAN (John Debney)

    and, although not movie music,
the following are also among the most listened and loved items in my collection:
THE HAUNTED MANSION 30TH ANNIVERSARY (Buddy Baker, John Debney, & Friends)
Disneyland Paris' SPACE MOUNTAIN (Steve Bramson)

and (- laugh if you want,
but these ones I have actually purchased -)
WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND (Andrew Lloyd Webber & Jim Steinman)
BARBRA BACK TO BROADWAY (Barbara Streisand sings)
JULIAN PLAYS ANDREW (Lloyd Webber "Bros" Instrumental Collection)
MR. HANKEY'S CHRISTMAS CLASSICS (South Park Christmas)

    ...and a Christmas present,
SWING WHEN YOU'RE WINNING (Robbie Williams sings)
    - a surprisingly good album !!

Of all the soundtracks released, the Ultimate Very Best One
is very easy to pick, at least for me -
    H E A R T B E E P S
    by John Williams
    - even a possible MOULIN ROUGE complete song & score album
    could NOT top HEARTBEEPS

Some of my most listened to CDs in 2001
    Under Fire
    Challenge
    On the Beach
    Chicken Run
    several Newmans

also like the new Shrek score.

    Sadly...only about 15 this year..ack...

Most listened to...without a doubt Fellowship of the Ring followed closely by Final Fantasy.

Least spun (not because its bad, simply because I can't get into it)...Harry Potter.

Notable mention for frequent spinning...From Hell

Oh good Lord, if I have to keep track of that then I have to keep track on how much I spend. If I keep track of how much I spend then I have to approximate how much I spend every month on an average. If I tally that up then I'll be beset with guilty feelings because I know I spend more than I should and I'll then have to work out a budget so I won't feel like I'm taking away from my children's college funds. If I have to be on a budget, then I'll never get what I want because I'll have to try to get the lowest price I can find and end up making smaller orders at different retailers and then therefore end up paying more in shipping charges. It just goes on and on and ..... gasp! I think I'll just say I get more than 50 per year and not think about anything else.

Like others, I don't think about keeping track. This year I've been buying LPs again - so much great stuff. My excitement meter pings the high end when playing something I've not heard before, despite the age of the recording (can't say the same for too many new soundtracks!). Delerue's Black Stallion Returns has been played the most this year, but then again, it's been played the most every year for more than 15 years now, so.... whatever that's worth!

    Delerue, I miss you!
