Has anyone held off buying the FotR soundtrack because he wants to wait for the 3 disc set( Its all your fault Dgoldwas, you and that interview you did ) Hope its not till 2003 and they'll release a 9 Disc set. Then special editions, then rerelease the special editions, then rerelease them in a 9 box set coughstarwarscough with extra 3 minutes music then rerelease it with in super 24bit

Damn you Howard, for releasing such a fine score. You have ruined my life

Heh- well don't let my interview hold you back!! As of right now, there are NO official plans to release a 3-CD set. But it's something Howard is thinking about. Honestly, if you want the music so much, just get the album! You won't be disappointed....

Hey Spice, just wait til the movies come out on DVD. I've not read any news on what the real scoop is, but if NewL wanted to milk the cow a la LucasFilm, they would release each DVD just weeks before the next theatrical film release, and then once all three films have been shown in theaters, release a gargantuan 5-DVD collectors set!

I am pretty much starting a "college fund" right now to save for the number of times I will be buying these movies in the future...

Peter, you're not too far from the truth...

New Line will be releasing a 2-DVD FOTR (reportedly a "director's cut"), in August 2002....

So expect a 6 (or even 7) DVD set in 2004 after all the films have been released.

The rumours I've read (repeatedly) say that there will be a "normal" release in 2002 (that's the confirmed part, now comes the rumour), and Director's Cuts of all three films after they're all out theatrically. Reportedly, PJ shot a lot more material than was used in the film, and it has yet to go through post production (aside from the 20 or so minutes that were cut from his original FOTR cut, which will probably end up on the first DVD in one way or another).

That's exactly what i read too Marian, no director's cut before the three films are shown theatrically.

Well... here's what I got from Howard Shore:

It's nice to hear about the interest in the 3 cd. set. There will be a Director's Cut DVD edition of "Fellowship" sometime later next year before "Two Towers" and the following year brings "The Return of the King".

    So.... <shrug>

    We'll see.

I certainly wouldn't object to getting the DC this year, either.

I would love a complete 3 disc version of this score. Shore himself said that the CD is only one-third of the score.

While many of the highlight moments are there (I don't think my life is the same after "The Bridge of Khazad Dum") there are still many missing... and it was all great. I listened. In fact, the music is so prominent in the sound mix that it is impossible to miss it.

This is what an epic film score should sound like.
