This year's list of 25 films inducted into the National Film Registry have been announced.

Each year, the Librarian of Congress, James H. Billington, selects 25 film works that are "culturally, historically or esthetically" significant for inclusion in the Registry. By being named to the list, the Library of Congress works to ensure that the designated film is preserved for all time, which could either be through the Library's motion picture preservation program in Dayton, Ohio, or in conjunction with other archives, the studios that own the films and/or independent filmmakers.

    Here is this year's list:

    1) ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN (1948)
    2) ALL THAT JAZZ (1979)
    3) ALL THE KING'S MEN (1949)
    4) AMERICA, AMERICA (1963)
    5) COLOGNE: FROM THE DIARY OF RAY AND ESTHER (1939)
    6) EVIDENCE OF THE FILM (1913)
    7) HOOSIERS (1986)
    8) THE HOUSE IN THE MIDDLE (1954)
    9) IT (1927)
    10) JAM SESSION (1942)
    11) JAWS (1975)
    12) MANHATTAN (1979)
    13) MARIAN ANDERSON: THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL CONCERT (1939)
    14) MEMPHIS BELLE (1944)
    15) THE MIRACLE OF MORGAN'S CREEK (1944)

Maybe some '90s titles will pop up in 10 years. Think about it.

It's nice to see "Animal House" being treated with the classic status that it deserves.
