Just got back from a viewing of this film. Had been wanting to see it. I gotta say it. I think Jean-Pierre Jeunet is one of our greatest, most inventive, contemporary filmmakers.

I think it is unfair to use ALIEN RESURRECTION as a gauge of this filmmaker's talent. The Hollywood moron factory ruined this one. So, like a wise director, he goes back to the turf he knows best...France. With AMELIE, he is back into the good graces of his other two masterpieces DELICATESSEN and CITY OF LOST CHILDREN. (Although CITY remains my reigning favorite of his and of my top ten films of all time.)

I would almost venture to say I wish I could see a scene or two from LORD OF THE RINGS from his directing viewpoint. He is so inventive. I feel like a kid again reading Mother Goose fairy tales when I see his films. Although, Peter Jackson is very inventive in his own independant right. So there is hopefor the real LOTR.

Anyway, go and see this film, AMELIE, if you haven't. It is well worth it. (Kimiakane, get over to the Esquire and see it before it leaves. It's running on the big screen now.) The score is pretty good, not as defined as CITY's, but there are good pieces alongside the source music, especially the end credits.

I hope my desert town gets this movie. It has had rave reviews, and I want to see it. I just found City of Lost Children today and rented it. Hope to watch it soon.

Danger! Danger, joan hue! If you have gotten a pan & scan VHS tape, you might as well return it right now, cuz there's no way in hades you're watching it!

Make no mistake, "City of Lost Children" is a BRILLIANT film. That said, the dub is TERRIBLE. Almost 100% INADEQUATE! The images, likewise, are so exquisitely framed that to chop of the sides ... it's like the violin section on a Morricone piece only being able to play pizzicato.

You can rent DVD players, you know. This is one of those films where it's worth it. Rent this and "Dark City" at the same time. Make it a double feature.

Pan & Scan is always bad. But if a film makes real use of it's aspect ratio, pan & scan is criminal.

    Still haven't seen Amelie.

I also wholeheartedly recommend AMELIE, an excellent, fun film by all accounts. The score is quite pleasant, very French, lots of accordian and piano. The star of the film is a dish, a dame, a real class act all the way! Even my girlfriend agrees that she seems to be quite a catch!

I agree with everyone...go see this movie! I was blown away by Audrey Tatou, as well as the guy she was going after.

And Jeneut deserves credit for this film, especially for those who discarded him after Alien Resurrection. He's got a great eye (oMG, this film has some astounding cinematography!) and a great sense of the comical and dramatic.

It's maybe 15 minutes too long, but I really didn't mind it.

Light, The Esquire is off of 5th and Walnut, right? Maybe Greg Bryant can tell me since he works downtown. I've only been there once about 4 years ago and I road with friends, so I don't remember how to get there. How much longer will it be playing? Thanks in advance!

Are you near Chicago, Kimiakane? I live right around the corner from the Esquire (where I saw AMELIE), on State & Chestnut. I didn't think there were too many MM members who lived in my neck of the woods!

Actually, Lightborne, Greg Bryant, and I are all from Cincinnati (although none of us have actually met in person).

Oh, well, it's still only 5 hours away, which isn't too far. Hey, we could even have a mini-convention for Mid-West film score fans!

Great! What composers are you going to rope in?

Er... ummm, okay I gotta work on that first. I didn't consider that fact most people would need a REASON, such as a celebrity composer, to get together!

Well, don't conventions usually have celebrities there? Forgive my ignorance as I've never been to one. I only know what I've read and been told.
