What are some of your appropriate score choices for those holiday nights like Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve? I always end up pulling out LEGENDS OF THE FALL (it sort of lends itself to the family idea quite nicely). Lee Holdridge and Don Davis's score to BEAUTY AND THE BEAST:OF LOVE AND HOPE is also a favorite.

Legends of the Fall? How does it relate to the holiday season? I am just curious because i do not own the score. I am always looking for festive music. Please explain.

This score is a must have. Pick it up.As I indicated in my post prior, this score goes with its visuals hand in hand. The movie is about family, the essence of the family unit, the departures, the returns, the love a family shares, the losses they endure, the changings of the seasons that compose the years that pass in our lives. Basically, this score (for me) represents what the holidays are really about, but have lost in all that festiveness and glitz we envelope them in... The lush, quiet, romantic enjoyment of that idea of the family.
Hope that answers your question. Sorry, if it doesn't. It's hard for me to express the emotions I have for this movie and its music. I hold it very dear.

I like the Home Alone scores, myself. Others find them annoying for one reason or another.

I must say I'm a sucker for both of the HOME ALONE scores and Alan Menken's and Tim Rice's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. They are ideal for Chistmas, I think. Still need to experience STEPMOM...Funny though, today at Circuit City's $10 CD Sale, I picked up JAWS:The Collector's Edition and THE OMEN: Deluxe Edition. Not exactly appropriate for the day after Thanksgiving. I guess these would have been best reserved for Halloween. Oh well, you gotta pick them up when you can get them!
I'm thankful for great talent like Goldsmith and Williams and these classic scores. There, I've officially made it appropriatefor this past holiday!!!

My favorite Christmas album is "Santa Clause The Movie" by Henry Mancini. I almost get religious when listening to it, it's great! Also I enjoy "All I Want For Christmas" by Bruce Broughton. Hmm, "Young Sherlock Holmes" also does it for me, probably because I used to watch the movie the night before Christmas every year.
Still, there is nothing like listening to David Foster doing "Carol of the Bells".
np: Home Alone 2

Had to add this one. I was listening to it today and for some reason it seems very appropriate in mood and family theme for the holidays, like LEGENDS OF THE FALL...It's Mychael Danna's RIDE WITH THE DEVIL. A great, mostly quiet score.
