When it comes to The Sea Hawk and The Adventures Robin Hood, I think Kojian and the Utah Symphony kicks everybody's butt...

Gerhardt is still the man, though!

Still, I'll probably buy this disc eventually, since I'm not real happy with the performance on the Varese Elizabeth and Essex re-recording. I'd also like to have something from The Prince and the Pauper and more of Captain Blood in my Korngold collection.

Rhino did release a few years ago, a 2CD set of Korngold suites: Korngold: The Warner Bros. Years

    very harsh sounding, but good.

There's a suite from Prince & Pauper on Gerhardt's Elizabeth & Essex album. And as for Blood, I do hope you have the Marco Polo album?

Marian, when you say the "Marco Polo album," do you mean the 20 minutes contained on this recording by the Brandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra?

    Nope, I don't have that.

Indeed, that's the one. The Blood suite is absolutely amazing. Different from the original (and shorter of course), but just as good in every way (and the finale beats Korngold's own recording, IMHO). Of course there's a lot missing, so the original is highly recommended as well.

The Scaramouche suite is as much the highlight of the album as Blood (will someone PLEASE release DVDs of both films?), and the performance and sound (recorded in the Jesus Christus Kirche in Berlin, where many great Karajan recordings were made as well) are top notch.
