I've noticed recently that I can enjoy film music as much as possible in just about every situation, except one...

    TRAFFIC...

Sure, it's great listening to scores while you're MOVING, but try sitting down for 30 minutes, brake and and off... Is John Williams still enjoyable? Simply put, no. In fact, I get harsh images of what I want to do to that composer (and family, usually) when listening to their work in traffic; is this normal?

Anyway, it's late (3:20 A.M.) and I can't get to sleep and have class in three hours... Thought I'd throw out this pointless thought and see what you guys thought... Whoa... Do you actually enjoy music when you're in traffic, or would you, like me, rather turn on Tom Leykis and here people talk about how their girlfriend has three boobs?

Think about it for a second, it's mind boggling (somebody shoot me now).

I'd rather have film music in traffic than not have it....

I'm agreeing with Jeron on this one. When sitting in traffic, it's much nicer to listen to some film music you wanted to hear than listen to some call-in radio show with people complaining about their lives.

Call me nutsy - but ever since I got my car stereo I don't mind traffic.

I actually like it when the traffic lights go red...coz I enjoy lsitening to movie scores in the car.

I even enjoy washing the car now........

Now here is something I wouldn't of EVER expected to hear in a forum about movie music...

"talk about how their girlfriend has three boobs? "

    LOL!

I agree, Camillu! I enjoy my car stereo so much that I don't mind traffic and am never in a hurry. Of course, my children are still babies, we'll see if this changes when they get into elementary school in 5-6 years from now!

The coolest thing about car stereos, especially if you have a CD player installed, is that you no longer have to wait until you get home to hear that new score CD.

I think it depends on what film music you're listening to. Listening to Somewhere in Time during traffic can be quite tranquilizing. On the other hand, as I discovered just this morning, listening to some of those choral passages from LOTR while you're stuck in traffic will just make you want to plow through all the cars in front of you like a cave troll pounding on hobbits.

Hasta, you seem to have a similar attitude to traffic as my sister does

Last week we drove about 300 miles up north in a severe snow blizzard, and had wonderful time listening to many soundtracks and also some pop music. But suddenly there was a big traffic jam because of an accident - and in just about ten minutes my sister lost her temper, although I tried to calm her down that we have a warm car, food, and lots & lots of good music...

I myself just love long distance drives in car while listening all the magical favorites. Often, when film music gets very energetic, I realize that I'm driving faster than the speed limit permits... so, in a way I understand you, Hasta. Just remember, that you should regard it as a privilege to be able listening to atmospheric film music in a car and enjoy yourself, and not minding the traffic jams.

    KEN

Break on and off? Pfff... you haven't suffered yet. Try traffic with a 5-speed manual shifting thingy.

Here here. 5spd on I-5 is always a pain in the buttocks. But film music is good anytime, anywhere.

Oh I love listening to scores in the car and every now and then will make a compilation which gets played to death.

Some of my fave in-transit cues are:
    Injection (from M:I-2)
    The Egg Travels (Dinosaur)
    Everywhere Freesia (Meet Joe Black)
    The Monastery (Red Violin)
Here to there (The Piano from Nyman Live)
    All Imperfect Things (as above)
The Beginning of the Partnership(Sh/in love)
    Orchard House (Little Women)
    Fashion Show (Rouge)
    Coronation (Elizabeth)
    End Titles (Waterworld)
Leaving Ingrid (Seven years in Tibet)
    The Might of Rome (Gladiator)
Main Theme (Dr Jekyll and Ms Hide)
    Main Theme (Dragonheart)
    Overture (Vatel)
    In Bicicletta (Canone Inverso)

    Regards,
    Rochelle

Then you haven't heard Goldsmith's story about the Medicine Man score.

Scores are the one thing that separates the Normal JJ from the Road Rage JJ.

I almost always listen to action scores in the car.

stick shifts help too, because I can at least slam the stick into a lower gear when I get pissed at the 97 year old driving 45 in the fast lane.

besides, 5-speed manual transmission is the ONLY way to drive.
    No wussy automatic for me!

    NP -- LOTR dammit!
