While walking through a group of model houses I heard a all piano version of the theme to Schindler's List. I was wondering where I could find this theme and other Themes performed entirely on piano, that were originally for an orchestra?

Well, it doesn't have SCHINDLER'S LIST, but Roger Williams did a bunch of piano renditions:

6. Laras Theme From Dr. Zhivago
7. An Affair To Remember (Our Love Affair)
8. Evergreen (Love Theme From A Star is Born)
9. The Way We Were
10. Call Me Irresponsible
11. Raindrops Keep Fallin On My Head
12. Maria (From West Side Story)
13. Love Is A Many Spendored Thing
14. Born Free

Tim, theres a Schindler's List music book for piano with "selected pieces from".
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0793532779/qid=1006213963/sr=1 -2/ref=sr_1_27_2/102-8076102-2689751

Theres also a book of 37 film score themes. It's quite good in my opinion. Schindler's List is included, as is Taxi Driver, The River Wild, Back to the Future and several Star Trek themes.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0793552508/qid=1006213340/sr=8- 2/ref=sr_8_5_2/102-8076102-2689751

Another good book is from Warner Bros. It has some songs in it, but it also has themes like L.A Confidential, Batman, The Fugitive, Michael Collins and Chariots of Fire (if you really feel the need).

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0769264115/qid=1006213855/sr=1- 5/ref=sr_1_8_5/102-8076102-2689751

I don't understand, do these books come with CDs?

Thanks Dan. I noticed you rated that a 1½ of 5. thats the lowest rating I've ever seen on your site.

TimT, you know that the Schindler's List soundtrack has a piano version of the theme, right? It's pretty much all piano, though the strings come in later in the piece.

I don't know if you want music from "Old Fogie" movies or not, but check out Ferrante & Teicher. Here are two links:
http://www.moviemusic.com/title.asp?id=greatseventiesthemes

That one has Superman and Shaft (!) on it, while this one.....
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000009CBZ/qid=1006215798/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_3_1/107-9554314-2685366

.....contains:

--Exodus (also known to laymen as "that Pat Boone song" and as the theme from Broughton's Tombstone to people who don't own any film scores from before 1989)

--Breakfast At Tiffany's (like Jell-o, you can never have enough of "Moon River" if you ask me; one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful pieces of music ever composed)

--Waxman's "Wishing Star" theme from Taras Bulba. If you don't own this score in one form or another, I will shoot you dead. If not the soundtrack, just get Sunset Boulevard: The Classic Film Scores of Franz Waxman and you'll hear one hell of an orchestral workout with "The Ride To Dubno."

--Jarre's Lawrence Of Arabia's theme (damn!)

--the theme from The Godfather

--Barry's Midnight Cowboy (sort of a male "Moon River"........"Poon River," I guess)

If you haven't heard any of these, you are missing OUT!

Shaun

Well, I never said Roger Williams did a good job playing them on the piano! LOL

(I think I gave 1.5 to ALONG CAME A SPIDER as well....)

the Varese CD of Alfred Newman's wonderful Anastasia has a short solo piano rendition of the theme performed by Newman himself.

and quite well recorded at that.

Oh, wait, I'm sorry Tim, I misunderstood.

I thought you were looking for sheetmusic of movie themes to play on the piano.

Tim, you definitely want to check out Michael Chertock. It was probably his rendtion of Schindler's List you were listening to.

In addition to the album listed above, he has a couple more: another more general one, a love theme compilation, and a Christmas album.

Kirk
NP - Martinu: Fantasia for theremin, oboe, piano, and strings

Yeah to Shaun for mentioning Ferrante and Teicher. What those guys could do with two pianos was amazing. Their best movie renditions were for Gold's masterpiece EXODUS and for Adolph Deutsch's glorious and melodious THE APARTMENT.
