The WB French CDs are trickling into the MM store. I know Lou Goldberg has discussed some of these before... what do others think?

If I recall, Summer of 42 has never been released on CD as a domestic release - surprising, considering it's an Oscar winner.

If you've been itching to buy these, or if you have specific WB France requests for the store, let me know. Cheapest prices in town, by far!

I don't know who the rocket scientist was who came up with the repackaging for these (like The Gauntlet, The Fox and Exorcist II), but it's really unappealing. I was really happy to finally get a legit release of Exorcist II on CD so I could get rid of my LP. However, the track listing is inaccurate as compared to the original LP.

As far as I know, Summer of '42 was only released on CD in Japan.

After hearing Tess/The Tenant, I want more of the Sarde FR CD's.....and of course I still need that Exorcist 2....not sure about the Schifrin's, but I'm in on the Sarde, fer sure

    Sean

PS...the pkging is a ok, but at least the notes were translated into English! A +!

Glad to see these being added Peter. I bought some of the titles in May when they were announced. Summer of 42 is a great score by Legrand and probably his best. The transfer is crisp and clear. The Exorcist 2 score is good and bad if you listen to it without the movie. The main title is classic Morricone. The horror stuff is too, but unless you liked The Cat of Nine Tails, it probably is not for you.

Add the Gauntlet and The Wild Bunch soundtracks by Jerry Fielding and I am a buyer.

I wouldn't say that Summer of '42 is Legrand's best score, not compared to Ice Staion Zebra, The Three Musketeers, and Wuthering Heights, but it is a beautiful theme.

Oddly, most of the Summer LP/CD was devoted to another great Legrand score to a very interesting but obscure film entitled Picasso Summer about a couple on vacation looking for Picasso's home.

Nevertheless, I highly recommend this as I do The Fox score by Schifrin.

Just note that The Wild Bunch is not the same as the WB/FSM version.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Three more titles will show up by the end of the week:

The Gauntlet, The Wild Bunch and Deliverance (this one's for you, Shaun - I know how much you like the kid with the banjo.... does he remind you of a close friend or something?).

There certainly needs to be more talk about Sam Peckinpah's films and soundtracks around here. To the death I wait for The Ballad of Cable Hogue to be released. The Main Title song is fine, but to hear "Butterfly Mornin'" from this film on CD.... I dream on. Jerry Goldsmith's little score is fun, too.

And to the other Sean (jeeze, it's like... let's think of some better names already! I kid... I only kid), I believe the Sarde titles are part of the Universal France series, which I will get around to adding to the store sooner or later (more like later). Comments noted though, thank you.

Ah, it's terrific to finally have The Gauntlet on CD. It's a lightweight score from Fielding but it still has some fine moments. A great score to drive to... The only way to have improved the album artwork on this release would have been to put the powerful piece of artwork Frank Frazetta painted for the film on the cover.

It should also be mentioned here that the Dirty Harry compilation re-issued by Warner France has the music from Dirty Harry films sequenced in film order, unlike the Aleph release, which seems to have no rhyme or reason to its track sequence. Couple that with some great artwork and notes from Warner France and you have a must-have disc.
