In 1994 I bought a CD from an Excelsior label, but it doesnīt credit the composers. I know a couple of them, but some I donīt. I posted this very same message at MovieTunes back in 1999 or 98, but many themes are composer-less appearently...

    SUPERMAN (John Williams)
    STAR TREK SUITE (A.Courage/J.Goldsmith)
    ALIEN(Jerry Goldsmith)
FIRST MEN IN THE MOON (?)
    THE BLACK HOLE(?)
    METEOR(?)
    BATTLESTAR GALACTICA(Stu Philips)
    THE DAY TIME ENDED(?)
    MOONRAKER(John Barry)
    THE LOST GALAXY(?)
    STAR WARS(?)

So thatīs the list....Mmmmm....I think I might know the last theme but not sure.... :P

    NP. ALIEN(Goldsmith)

I have the original disc of this (KEM-DISC 1007) circa 1986. The LP came out in 1979 and didn't have FIRST MEN ON THE MOON and THE DAY TIM ENDED. The Lost Galaxy was by Ettore Stratta, who conducted the album. The Day Time Ended was by Richard Band.

I've got this on cassette. It says on the front "Ettore Strata conducts the LSO*" and then in tiny print elsewhere "* London Studio Orchestra".

I quite like it, actually. Some of the arrangements are a little overdone, but it sill works. I'll get a CD of it sometime.

NP: SLEEPWALKERS (Nicholas Pike). Another $6 spent on an album I didn't really need.

I found the Ettore Strata arrangements on this album horrifying, The Black Hole and Moonraker, in particular. I quickly gave this album the heave-ho. Although I did enjoy Laurie Johnson and Richard Band selections because I was not familiar with their work at the time.

Well, I wasn't that horrified, but that may be because my original exposures to film music were with cover versions - specifically a string of albums by Geoff Love And His Orchestra (and others). Even Star Wars I heard through arrangements rather than the OST (though I did get that later).

I remember this from the LP days; I liked it very much back then. But on the LP, there were two pieces by Stratta himself, "The Lost Galaxy" and "Late Planet Love", and all the composers were mentioned. Anyway, I thought the arrangements were quite good. I thought it was exciting to hear Moonraker and Alien in these arrangements, and the Battlestar Galactica version was particularly well done. I haven't heard this album for many many years now though, and wouldn't mind getting it on CD myself some time.

I liked the arrengement of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA on this recording. I was wondering if this is the only recording of this, the quality of the sound on this CD is not that good... The only other version I have is the one by John Williams and the Boston Pops...

A soundtrack album for BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was released on LP and cassette by MCA, and it did make it to CD as well (from Edel?). Phillips also re-recorded it for Varese a few years ago.

    NP: LAKE PLACID (John Ottman)
