Lest any of you foolish, foolish people get suckered into sacrificing wads of cash for the new Star Trek movie DVD box sets -- (or perhaps you own them all already ... suckers!) -- here's confirmation of what most of us have been suspecting for years.

Trekkers can look forward to the re-release of other "Star Trek" films on DVD before too long. Both Shatner and Nimoy say they have agreed to provide commentary for the upcoming discs.

LOL, I attended the Robert Wise autograph session at Virgin last night (for the ST:TMP dvd)... I *laughed* when I saw the box sets. Gotta love how Paramount squeezes Trek fans for all they're worth.

What Jeron forgot to mention was that there are TWO different movie box sets!

One with just the old cast (ST 1-6), and one "complete" box set (ST 1-9).... combine that with the fact that not only will they be doing special editions of all the films, but that there will inevitably be ANOTHER box set with all the SEs - and probably a "bonus" disc or two, and it's like Paramount is turning into Lucasfilm!

Much the same way record companies rehash their back catalog by "remastering" CDs, the film studios are doing the same with DVDs. The DVD is only 4 years old and the number of titles that have seen more than one DVD release is growing. The Evil Dead movies are a good case in point, The Mummy, Patch Adams, and The Best Years of Our Lives have seen two releases and I'm sure there are a good number of other examples I'm not thinking of right now.

And let's hope (though I don't think they would do anything else) that this time, Undiscovered Country will be anamorphic.

Actually, there's a THIRD box set that's been out for a while with just the three Next Gen movies.
