I just received this and it is wonderful. It the score to a BBC series of specials about the oceans.
The opening Main Theme is vast and expansive, one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have heard in a long time.
The second cut, Sardine Run, sounds like something from an adventure film, a very propulsive allegro.
If you like Fenton, I think you will love this. If you never liked Fenton before, you will after you hear this.

I have yet to hear a single negative comment about this CD. The review over at Moviewave was particularly interesting. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy - surprise, surprise, it's not available locally.

Watched the second part of the series on Tuesday. It wasn't nearly as exciting as the first part, musically, but that's because part #2 was about the deep sea and what little score there was was basically just moody underscore. The music for the first episode was excellent though, and I can't wait for the next part.NP: Needful Things (Patrick Doyle)

Does anyone know if this will get released in the US? I'd buy the import, but I'm waiting for news whether this will be released here first.Regards,

Don't wait for an American release, man. Just get it. You'll feel special. And when someone asks if you have Blue Planet, you can say, "I have the IMPORT version."Shaun

Oh, I would. Though, for the price I have seen it going for, that would be money better spent on the Varèse CD Club releases! Something, that I too have yet to pick up!

ON Sunday 24/09 the BBC just screened a concert in Hyde Park of Fenton's music to the Blue Planet. The music was very impressive and evocative and fitted the oceanic images (shown on huge screens) perfectly. Did anyone else see it or go to it and was it one of those free gigs?P.S. They also played Elgar's wonderful "Where Corals lie" ...a piece which I hadn't heard before and which I coincidently heard 3 times this weekend between the radio and television...spooky!!

It's funny this should be brought back on top now after all this time. I just got the CD the other day...
Great music and am hitting myself in the head for not getting it sooner. Has anyone heard both the import and US versions? How do they compare?

Aren't they the same? I believe I once compared the tracklistings and found them to be identical. I think the cover is the only difference. It's easily a five star score IMHO. And Fenton certainly deserved his Emmy.
Funny enough, I recently saw a copy of the CD in a local store for the first time (I have the UK import, imported from MM.com
), and not even in the score section, but in the 20th Century Music section.NP: Songs From Distant Earth (Mike Oldfield)
