Whats all the fuss about? I already have the DECCA 1978 recording on CD with Dr. Rozsa conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus!! O.K. So I cheated and did my own CD-R and Jewel Case Sleeve, but it still sounds great. Surely, this is all thats being done with the original recording anyway... a transfer from the 1978 analogue master tapes? With all the technology around now, I'm more and more inclined to make my own CD copies of scores I already have on LP. O.K., So its not as professionally sounding and put together as the real thing, but to me, if the music sounds great (and it does!!) then whats the point of spending another 15 quid of my hard earned money on something I already have? Personally, I recently made a more important investment in buying a new needle for my record player in order to get the best quality sound for my LP to CD recordings. The difference is amazing!! All those records that I thought were worn down through over playing can be heard perfectly again with hardly any scratches or hiss evident. And for any of you people who would argue that the quality of sound is just as good as a CD recording, I agree with you. The main reason I want to have them on CD though is cos I have 3 CD players all over the house and CD's are better for playing, programming and carrying around etc. Also, by playing the scores on CD I am preserving my records by not playing them. As regards Quo Vadis... for those of you who dont have the score already, get it and enjoy it. You wont be dissappointed!! Gae NP ADVENTURE! Ron Goodwin & his Orchestra

I forget......is this Artemis a bootique label? From what I remember about their other releases, they sound like 'em.

So what's the URL for "Artemis"? There's an artemisrecords.com, but it looks like some sort of rap label.

FSM stopped listing Artemis' first releases because they were mastered from LPs and the legality was questionable. I doubt whether Artemis have a website. There is no contact information at all on their CDs. Perhaps they have recently raised their game and QUO VADIS is a legit arrangement with the Decca people.

Awww, this better not be a bootleg or LP-to-CD crap. I don't like that stuff.

Well, having picked up The Dove, Lady Caroline Lamb, and other Artemis CDs, I haven't been disappointed and they don't sound like LPs to me.

I have clean CD versions of both Quo Vadis suites to be put out.

The REAL great news here is The Lion (one of the all-time great scores!) and 9 Hours to Rama by Malcolm Arnold.

Thanks for the link, JEC. I guess Decca is friendly with these guys.

I second that. The only scored I'd like to have more than The Lion is Africa,
    Texas Style
    .

Just got mine today. Plus the Malcolm Arnold CD. Both say they are licensed through Decca.

I haven't listened to the Arnold one, but I'm listening to Quo Vadis NOW and this is certainly no LP transfer (tracks 1-12, anyway). The sound quality is magnificent.

    GRAB THIS ONE TODAY!!!!

Consider it grabbed. Not knowing what it was worth, I missed passing up a mint-condition original Decca release for $7! This presentation looks even better, containing the bonus cues as it does!

GAE SAID: "I already have the Decca 1978 recording on CD with Dr. Rozsa conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus!!"

I just heard a vinyl copy of the 1978 Decca version. It doesn't contain Walter Pidgeon's narration and thank goodness for that. My favorite track (if you're aching to know and I know you are) is Petronius's Banquet/Meditation and Death. Christopher Palmer said of Petronius's theme: "its noble, elegiac character is fully disclosed as it is taken up by violas and cellos and sung with a contained ardor very characteristic of Rozsa".
