I don't know if this is common knowledge now, but I just found out that they're making a prequel to Gettysburg out of the book Gods and Generals, and intend to make a threequel after that. My question is: are they going to bring in Edelman for this one again? That'd be beyond great- he did a wonderful job the first time.

    Supposedly.

I mean, if they can get him for The Hunley....

Should be interesting, though. Edelman's always got something good to offer--even if he does end up in all the trailers...(which is probably a good thing, thinking about it...)

    Edelman's hit and miss.

still, I thoroughly enjoyed his Gettysburg score.

    even with the synths....

Um- being in the trailers is a good thing. That means people like the music- Unless they're trying to scare people out of watching the movie-
About how far into the production of the movie do they usually announce the composer?

Seems that John Frizzell will be scoring this Civil War epic.... interesting choice! I can't wait to hear what he comes up with!

    Well, there's an odd choice.

Hopefully it will turn out good.

Lame melodic attempts, dissonant orchestral hits, squeeky woodwinds, screaming brass, and some forgettable electronic noise to accompany it all.

It appears to be coming out on Dec 27, 2002, according to www.ronmaxwell.com.

I believe I read in the past that he worked on the footage for the following movie during Gods and Generals, as well.

You sure it's Frizzell? This website says it's Edelman:

It should be interesting, he uses a full orchestral right?

Well, that was posted a long time ago- Edelman is, however doing the score. That is, according to www.randyedelman.com

Or are the two composers working together on this one? Is Frizzell orchestrating for Edelman?

Apparently they're both scoring the film, according to Dark Horizons (and director Ron Maxwell's official site.

I read that too Dan. It seems like an odd pairing. Edelman's work on Gettsyburg was easily some of his best...I wonder what Frizell will bring to the table?

Please ignore my comment above I was young and naive.

Overall Edelman sucks. Gettysburg and Dragonheart were good.

    Gimme Goldenthal over Edelboy anyday.

Music plays a powerful role in the film -- in addition to the haunting score by composers Randy Edelman and John Frizzell, with solos by Grammy-winning fiddler Mark O'Connor, the soundtrack features two unforgettable original songs.

This thread just won't die, will it?
That's great to hear- I'll be there at my local CD store on Feb 4th. Interesting that they call the score 'haunting'- would that be how you describe the score to Gettysburg? I suppose Frizzell gave the score a more tragic spin.
