Well, the JWFan site is reporting an alert from IMdB regarding this Dreamworks production. John Williams is listed as composer with Danny Elfman listed as "(themes)". If this is correct this would be truly interesting. According to the Dreamworks site the release date is 12/25/01, but the IMdB lists a February 2002 date.

Is it possible this was moved up and could it be that this was the reason Williams had to skip out on the recent Boston Symphony concert?

I cannot imagine either Elfman or Williams agreeing to this kind of arrangement. If so, it would be the most amazing thing since some of the Alfred Newman collaborations with Herrmann or Friedhofer.

Tim Burton is listed as a creator of the Morlocks so that could explain the Elfman connection.

Since none of the posters or trailers list details of the production yet we can only guess.

That sounds about as likely as Anne Dudley and Richard Band collaborating on Good Omens.

There's no way. Williams is way too popular a composer to have someone else doing his thematic material, especially considering that probably close to 90% of all film themes that could be hummed by the "average Joe" belong to Williams.

Someone just got carried away with their fantasies, I'm sure.

And as to the release date, 12/25 was originally scheduled, but it was actually pushed back so they could redo the ending.

Sounds like a joke to me.

Elfman writing themes for Williams! *LOL*

According to what I've heard, it's Klaus Badelt and Jim Dooley at Media Ventures who are working on the score....

    UPDATE (from Chris Tilton):
Regarding The Time Machine score. Williams and Danny Elfman have no involvement. The score is being written by Klaus Badelt, one of Zimmer's pupils. This is straight from the mouth of Time Machine producer, Walter Parkes

    Klaus Badelt? OH GOD NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I think Klaus Badelt will do a great job, his percussion work with Michael Kamen on X-Men really gave that score a taste it couldn't have alone. His work with Hans Zimmer has been nothing less than good musicianship. I personally look foward to the film and this score. Warner Bros. has slated this film and the Schwarzenegger film Collateral Damage for February- gonna be interesting month next year.

Besides, that initial alert was rom the IMDB. Something tells me either someone over there likes to make fanboy-type jokes just to mess with our community which alread compounds the fact that IMDB is maybe 60% reliable whereas Varity.com has been much more informative and useful. IMDB is good for films past their release, and even then their information is not always correct. I learned that the hard way in a discussion here two years ago.

    Well said, Widescreen.

It was like pulling teeth trying to get the IMDB to change their listing of U.S. MARSHALLS for about a month AFTER the film- they listed James Newton Howard as doing the score (just because he did THE FUGITIVE - he was NEVER attached to do U.S. MARSHALLS).

Personally, the IMDB rocks - but ONLY for films post-release date.

Well, we'll just have to wait and see! And it's not just Badelt, mind you - Jim Dooley is contributing to it as well from what I hear.

Well, this simply confirms what I had already thought. I would have sworn I read that someone at Media Ventures was working on this. Perhaps the film is so bad thay someone posted erroneous data to get some hype on it. Would be the first time IMdB has been used to do that...

Yeah, but you would think that the folks over at the IMDb would at least THINK about the stuff before they announce it as news - or at least try to confirm it.

I mean, Williams using Elfman's themes?? It's not out of the realm of possibilty (I remind everyone about THE EGYPTIAN), but it would have at least required a bit of fact-checking first....

Russell Garcia's score for the original is so perfect... exciting and lyrical... I have a hard time seeing Media Ventures being able to fill those shoes...

...and a thumbs up from me too you two!

Garcia's score is gorgeous, one of those themes I was 'aware' of as a child, long before I really got into film music (along with Ben-Hur, Bond scores etc), Pal's original is a 'flawed' classic that I still love to watch today!
