Ooooh, John Frizzell. He hasn't really done much of notice for a while. After Alien Resurrection, he had a couple of flops with I Still Know... & Teaching Mrs Tingle, & where'd he go? (this is where everyone jumps in and tells me all the things Frizzell has done since then, & tells me how stupid & ignorant I am) I'm quite intrigued to hear this score (released by Varese on 6th Nov) "a powerful symphonic nightmare" quoth the hype. I'll wait and see (probably catch the movie, even if it's not very good), but I'm certainly quite keen to hear what the guy's come up with.

They should have used Don Davis. He was aweseome in House on Haunted Hill.

Don was attached to the project for quite a while, but ended up backing out due to scheduling issues with JURASSIC PARK III. And he wanted to focus on THE MATRIX sequels.

Ah, I was just about to ask what had happened to why Davis wasn't scoring this. TGhanks for answering before I asked.

Ah, Frizzell has also done Josie & the Pussycats. I wanted to go see that, but even with 27 cinema screens close to me, none of them where showing it. Dang, guess I'll wait for video.

As for the 13 Ghosts, it looks like a cheesily entertaining B movie, a la House on Haunted Hill. Just my cup of tea...

If 13 Ghosts is going to be anything like House On Haunted Hill, I'd say that Don Davis is a pretty good choice. The remake of H on Haunted H scared me almost as much as the original, which is saying something, seeing as I'm an adult and don't get scared. Maybe I was feverish and vulnerable when I saw the new one, instead of just young.

Rob Zombie? Who's he? If he's a Marilyn Manson type, no thanks (Good Lord, what are we bringing our children up with?). Marilyn did a song in the remake of H On H H, but if he had done the score I'm sure that it would have nosedived that film into the realms of an Alice Cooper video. No courage in its convictions, convictions which should be to SCARE psychologically without reverting to rock-horror eye- shadow weirdness effects. Something unfathomable for me is the connection between "horror" and exaggerated baldy git wrestling. You see it in some horror fan mags. There are always articles on baldy wrestlers beside ones on new gore movies.

So, 13 Ghosts should have music by Von Dexter again, and if he's dead, then by Don Davis.

By the way, is the new Zemeckis movie "Macabre" a remake of the old William Castle scarefest? If so, Alan Silvestri sounds OK if they can't resurrect Les Baxter.

Well... it's John Frizzell. Not much you can do about it now!

Yes, it's a remake of the older film.

Oh, not a remake of Lamberto Bava's 1980 debut, then?

    Frozen Terror? I doubt it

That movie was a bit dull.....until the very end. GREAT surprise ending!!! One of the best! Maybe we should enlighten those not in the know

And I give my vote for the great, elusive, unknown Von Dexter too
He did a great score for House on Haunted Hill '56 and The Tingler IIRC.

Ah, you see it was called Macabre over here.

It is such a crazy ending though. Love it.

I probably need to watch the old HoHH again, since I don't recall the score really. Is there any of his stuff released on CD at all does anyone know?

Probably no Von Dex on CD(a job for MMM perhaps???), but Macabro was called Frozen Terror when released commercially. Such a long, drawn out movie, but the ending makes it worth it almost

Ah, well I don't remember the first release of the film, being all of about nothing when it was made. But my video of it is called Macabre, and for some reason whenever anyone mentions the title, that is the first film I think of, then the Castle one, then the Zemeckis. Actually I'd forgotten about the remake. Is Zemeckis himself directing?

Scans are now up here at Varese. 22 tracks. I can't make out how long they run, & so the length of the album, but it doesn't look too shabby at all.
