    For Heavens sake Scott,
    IT'S ONLY A FILM SCORE !!!
(and Williams has done even better ones )

My little sister happens to disagree a lot on my favorite film scores, but still I don't wanna "hurt" her.

Initially I really thought you and Lemons were only joking, but now I'm not so sure anymore...

And yes in my opinion "Star of Bethlehem" is not SO great, Marian & guys - till this day my ears say that the climax of the song sounds like the orchestra is having serious trouble performing it.
I prefer "Somewhere In My Memory".
But "Christmas Star" from the sequel is even better - with enchanting melody and wittier lyrics.
    Just in my opinion

    KEN

I don't think they have problems. It just has some very cool counterpoints that make for a slightly atonal sound.

One of the singers in Carol of the Bells get's one note awfully wrong though.

    True, Ken,

it's only a film score and true, perhaps, not one of Williams' best. Yet, while your little sister may disagree with you I doubt she would purposely post a thread on this site to simply piss you off. My brother has. He doesn't have to like the score. He can hate it. But the only reason he posted this thread is because I love it so much and he just wanted to bug the hell out of me because he knows he can't do it any other way. It is his evil way of some kind of payback he thinks he needs to accomplish. He is evil. I am telling you, Darth Vader is an angel compared to this one. Just think for a moment, he mentioned his distaste for the Home Alone score before on another thread but didn't get the response he wanted. So, he posts a brand new thread. I am telling you, he is over in New York rubbing his evil hands laughing about this right now, and some of you fell right into his trap (Justin).

Now the big question of the day is indeed: Are we just joking or is this for reals? Well, it's for us to know and you to find out. All I will be saying, watch your news channels very careful for any reports from Texas after October the 30th....

Well if you guys hate it so much send it to me. I don't even have a copy of the score. But it's by John Williams and those things shouldn't even be joked about. I'm a serious John Williams fan and I think anybody who thinks that any score by John Williams is not a gem they should have there livers slowly toasted over and open flame.

Doesn't a song have to have lyrics... uh, words and stuff? Maybe I have my titles confused. I'm referring to the one grand orchestral piece on the CD that sounds like it could have come right out of Hook.

Your confused indeed. The song does have lyrics. We are talking about the piece that was sung by the little choir inside the church when Kevin talked to the old guy.

OK, not being anywhere near my actual CD I just checked the track list at Amazon and there are 2 Star Of Bethlehems listed. Tracks 5 and 13. I'm referring to the completely orchestral one and that is by far the best thing on the CD.

In honor of the 60th post to this thread that should've not been, I officially ask LemonsAreIcky:

Why do you find the score to Home Alone so annoying and why does it get on your nerves? Please explain in detail, I am sure most of us would like to know and at this point, your very life depends on it.

Home Alone is a really delightful score. It gives me that warm-and-fuzzy-hello-it's-Christmas-time! feel inside.

But has anyone ever noticed the similarity of the main theme to a German carol called "Stille, Stille, Still"? Not that there's anything wrong with this at all. . . it's not a ripoff, but the carol has a very similar feel. Not that I think there's anything wrong with ripoffs to start with.

I know quite a few German carols, but I don't think I know this one. Are you sure that is the title?

Uh, not really. . . but that was the title on the arrangement of it I played with my band a couple of years ago.

And oops! That was a typo, it's "Stille, Stille, Stille"

I think it's "Stille, stille, still", and I also think that it was originally written by Mozart, but I'm not sure. I don't see a similarity to Home Alone though.

Well, maybe it's just me. I hadn't heard Home Alone in a while when I heard Stille, Stille, Stille, so I might have been mistaken when my first reaction was, "This sounds like Home Alone!" It's probably more in the character of that particular arrangement, which may, in fact, have been inspired by Home Alone, since it was from I think 1996 or something. But probably not. If that made any sense whatsoever.

Oooooh, has anyone heard Alfred Schnitke's "Stille Nacht".
It's a rather witty take on Silent Night.

I'd have gone for a more fitting title though, such as "Murder at Christmas time".

Apparently he wrote it as a Christmas present for a friend, so I don't know what message he was trying to send to them.

    Viola & Company,
"Stille, Stille, Stille" is featured as an instrumental snippet on John Williams & Boston Pops album JOY TO THE WORLD (Sony Classical) - a magnificent Christmas album !!! Credits acclaim that the song is Traditional Austrian by its origin.

    NP "Sleigh Ride" (Leroy Anderson)
from JOY TO THE WORLD: John Williams & The Boston Pops Orchestra

"Sleigh Ride" is my MOST favorite Christmas song of all time; it's a pity TLC ruined it for HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK.

About JOY TO THE WORLD album, it's an incredible CD containing some of the very best recordings from Williams & The Boston Pops. It includes a couple of selections from HOME ALONE and a wonderful interpretation of Clement Moore's classic 'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS narrated by Robin Williams !! Tanglewood Festival Chorus performs the vocal parts splendidly. I indeed recommend JOY TO THE WORLD album to anyone who likes Christmas music !!

...Hey Christmas is soon here with a vengeance !!!
