Just read on the Varese Sarabande site:

SHREK, the #1 movie of the year and DreamWorks' $265 million box office comedy smash, is being released on VHS and DVD featuring an all-new, never-before-seen extended ending — making the biggest movie of the year even bigger!

As a special tie-in to what is expected to be the biggest and most successful home video release of all time, Varèse Sarabande releases the second soundtrack CD containing more music from SHREK, including, for the first time, more memorable songs from the film plus the original score composed by Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell. The perfect CD companion to one of the greatest film classics of our time.

Once upon a time in a far away swamp, there lived an ornery ogre named Shrek (Mike Myers) whose precious solitude was suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters. There are blind mice in his food, a big, bad wolf in his bed, three little homeless pigs and more, all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow). Determined to save their home, not to mention his own, Shrek cuts a deal with Farquaad and sets out to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) to be Farquaad's bride. Accompanying him on his mission is a wisecracking Donkey (Eddie Murphy) who will do anything for Shrek except shut up. Rescuing the Princess from a fire-breathing dragon may prove the least of their problems when the deep, dark secret she has been keeping is revealed!

In addition to containing the epic original score featuring a 110-piece orchestra and a massive choir, the CD features the hilarious and popular song Welcome To Duloc, the much-loved song of the Merry Men as well as Princess Fiona's memorable duet with the Bluebird!

A classic must-have CD for anyone who loved the fairytale!

    Release Date: 12/04/01

    Also coming new from Varese:

    - Damien: Omen II - Deluxe Edition (Jerry Goldsmith)
    - The One (Trevor Rabin)

    This is veeeerrrrry good news.

After rewatching Shrek, I decided if a score was released I'd buy it.

So now I will I guess.

This seemed too good to be true and so I had to see it for my own eyes at the Varese website - but it's all true!

I just hope they give us a long album for Shrek, especially since they are including at least 3 songs on it.

Does anyone know where the score was recorded? If it's in california then expect like 35min. But if it was in London or something, then a full score is possible. Maybe.

Would be interesting to find out...even though the score being released itself is enough to be greatful for. I believe there will most likely by 40-45 minutes of score on there. Which is good enough

The score is only about 40min long total, so don't bitch if the release is not 70min long.

The Seattle musicians are non-union so you'd get the same effect as the London one.

YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH

I guess the movie was okay, it would have been better if I would have been in a better mood the night I'd seen it (got turned down that same day for housing rent assistance). The part that stuck out was the score. It surprised me how good it was. Here are some of my favorite parts: opening where Shrek is reading the book, Shrek sits down to eat, Shrek rescues princess, Dragon chase, and many more!! Thanks so much for posting this, I am very much looking forward to it!!

This may be a dumb question...

But if it was recorded with a non-AFM orchestra, why wasn't it released in the first place?

Someone's bad idea of product timing. They did this with Antz- only that took a month after its release to put the score out.

The idea, or so, Varese lists in the liner notes, is for it to be a tie-in with the video and DVD release. Only problem is the DVD is out 11/2, and the release date I saw for the Score disc is 12/4, right? A month after as a tie in to the Video release across the board- anybody else think this makes no sense marketing wise?

I personally don't think it makes any sense from any standpoint, but that may just be my frustration showing through
