The best films score ever written for an animated motion picture is Leonard Rosenman's The Lord of the Rings. By quite a margin. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see that even such a routine effort as The Lion King has gotten considerably more votes.

NP: Carmine Coppola and Francis Coppola Apocalypse Now -- Redux

Hey, how about the movie "CHICKEN RUN"....that qualify's as an "animated" film doesn't it? It's also a beautiful score, and especially for such a goofy movie.

NP: BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK...Andre' Previn

Chicken Run is fantastic, but Peter was obviously referring to "animated" as in "animated cartoons", excluding "clay-mation" (sp?). And for the cartoon genre, I agree with Nicolai: LOTR is LOTR.

NP: By Request (Boston Pops Orchestra, John Williams)

Why isn't The last Unicorn on there, that had one of the best soundtracks of all time.

For what itīs worth, my absolute favourite score to an animated film is Horner's "The Land Before Time". Probably his best score to date - for me, anyway. I mean, damn! How many good themes can a score have?? And it elevated the film far above its initial potential - actually, when you think about it, Horner more or less saved that film.

This poll reminds me of those FSM polls that claim to have you select the best Jerry Goldsmith score of all time from a select few, absolutely omitting "The Blue Max" and "The Wind and the Lion" and a few others -- JG's best scores, IMO!

Frankly,THE best damned score ever written for an animated film was "Bambi"!

"Love is a song that never ends...."

Second is "Song of the South"!

    "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay!...

"Sooner or later you're gonna be comin' around...I betcha...I betcha that I'll catch ya...you wait and see....

"This heart of mine is in the heart of Dixie, that's where I belong, singing a song...a Song of the South...."

Lots of argument could then ensue about third best, but I think it hands down belongs to ALAN MENKEN for either "Beauty and the Beast" or "Hunchback of Notre Dame."

ALL THE REST IS CHAFF, comparatively speaking.

    Okay...that's MY opinion...!

Ron, it shouldn't remind you of such, as I made a point to state "of the choices presented" in the very first post (first sentence!) of this thread, and in several subsequent messages.

I harp on this issue because I knew people would react as violently as they have about what was not included on the list. I wanted to make it clear very early on that this wasn't a "best ever" poll. The majority of contributors to this thread still didn't get it.

As a result, the polls will probably go the way of the... homegrocer.com website.
