Anyone here besides me fumed about that vocal song being the theme for Enterprise? Anyone here think Dennis McCarthy could have done it himself? Anyone here missed a years worth of movie music discussions, and would like to dedicate their lives to the Gettysburg and Contact scores?
    G-g-g-g-gettysburg- I'm not worthy-

I'm not particulary fumed about it... "Faith of the Heart" by Rod Stewart is a great song. I've got a couple friends who think the song doesn't match the show at all. Have they actually LISTENED to the lyrics? I don't think so. I think the lyrics work beautifully within the context of the themes presented in the pilot episode (and the general premise of the show).

As for McCarthy, I believe he DID compose a backup theme, just in case the song doesn't go over well. I suppose only time will tell whether it's implemented or not. While I'd love an orchestral theme, I also take the stance that Enterprise is a different kind of Trek, and the contemporary nature of the entire main title sequence plays well in to the world in which the story takes place. If McCarthy's theme surfaces, cool! If not, well, what can ya do? I don't think it will detract from my enjoyment of the show in the least bit.

As for Gettysburg... lol, which has nothing to do with your topic (just thought I'd point that out), I think it's a terrific score, but Edelman's use of synth over orchestra is revolting. It makes the music practically unlistenable. Give me Kunzel's version (from his "The Big Picture" cd) any day.

Whats this? Jeron giving a negative feedback on a score?
Quick Captain Goldsmith!, beam me the Twighlight Zone disc!

I said I think it's a terrific score. Since when was that negative? I'm a big fan of Edelman's music. The methods by which he has them performed creates an more-often-than-not undesirable result, but the quality of his writing is something I never hesitate to praise.

The Kunzel version from "Beautiful Hollywood" is much better.

As to Enterprise, I say change the theme. I'd rather not describe how much I dislike that song.

Now, you've lost me. My only point in Enterprise is that it *should* be instrumental- the idea of a vocal song makes me fear a total makeover in ST- I don't fear change, but I do sence a change for the worse. I'm relieved to know McCarthy has a backup.

No, actually they aren't. Two different cues. I just happen to like the one on Beautiful Hollywood better.

Interesting... you'll have to play it for me some time.
