I thought there was only one series of Fawlty Towers?

There are still only 13 Episodes aren't there?

Where does series one end and series two begin if they broke them up?

Theres are just too many Questions.

No idea. Perhaps the "Season One" and the "Complete Box Set" are one and the same thing.

To answer some of the questions... there were two series of "Fawlty Towers" with 12 episodes in all. Series One was in 1975 and the second series 4 years later in 1979. Series One had the following classic episodes in order of transmission:-

    A Touch of Class........
    "Hello Lord Mulberry! BASTARD!!!!!(shouts)"

    The Builders........
    O'Riley: "If the Good Lord..."
Fawlty (interrupting) "..is mentioned once more I'll move you closer to him!!!"

    The Wedding Party
Fawlty "It is of course DISGUSTING, that you haven't shaved, but sometimes I dont shave either, which is also DISGUSTING, so I'll have some batteries sent up to your room straight away"

    The Hotel Inspectors
Fawlty (to guest) "Asked the waiter? You might as well ask the Cat!!"

    Gourmet Night
fawlty (to irritating boy) "Oh dear, what shape (of chips (fries))do you usually have then? Mickey Mouse shape? Amphibious landing craft shape? Poke-in-the-eye shape!!!!"

    The Germans
    Fawlty "You started it!!"
    German guest "No we did'nt!"
Fawlty "Yes you did...you invaded Poland!!"

"WHO WON THE BLOODY WAR ANYWAY!!!!"

So many classic lines to choose from this great series.
The DVD has menus with short clips from a couple of episodes, there are a couple of interviews with Andrew Sachs (very serious guy...nothing like Manuel!!) and of course John Cleese (who is in his usual analytical and dry frame of mind...nothing like Fawlty either!!)
There are biographies of the main stars of the series and a documentary on Torquay and the original Hotel owner who Basil Fawlty was based on...pretty boring documentary really.
The worst thing on the DVD though is the commentary by the Director of the first series. Talk about the most dreariest and dullest commentary on this planet. First of all, the guy watches each episode with no sound on (or at least we cant hear anything). There are several long moments of silence, broken only by some sexist comment or insult thrown at members of the cast "If you'd have stood in the right place, the camera would have got you would'nt it?...go on, get lost then" Every now and then the guy laughs out loud with one of those laughs that sounds like some-one clearing their nasal passages while similtaneously clearing their throats. Anyway, I lasted the first episode and didn't listen to any more. Why we didn't get a commentary by John Cleese and/or Connie Booth, I'll never know. Anyway, suffice it to say, the DVD's are worth it for the episodes alone. I'll probably pick up series Two in the near future. One other thing is that even though the episodes have been supossedly "digitally re-mastered", Video tape recordings of the BBC from 1975 look pretty poor regardless of how well they are transferred. I say this because I tried watching the DVD on a big screen (with my projector) and you could see a lot of faults with the transfer. It looks as good as it ever has on a television screen though. Thats all folks! If you like "Fawlty Towers" and want to keep it for posterity, like I do, then I recommend buying the discs. Gae NP Dances with Wolves

Basil visiting his wife in hospital:

NURSE: "Come on you, out!, out!

BASIL: "I'm sorry? Oh, I thought there was a dog in here."

Basil's wife was in for an ingroing toenail. After much Sybil-chat, Basil mutters:

"Pity it wasn't an ingroing tongue."

"Ingroing" looks strange in print. Is that the right spelling?

OH COME ON NOW! Tell us what you've bought in October. Me, nothing. Thinking about Omen, Final Conflict, AI, FSM Friedhofers, Illustrated Man... Rozsa At MGM from years ago... Will go to supermarket tomorrow and buy beans. But in the next-door basket will be....?

About ready to order the following from the every-trustworthy HMV.com:

    - John Williams' SUPERMAN score, the re-recording conducted by John Debney (was about time, actually :)
    - Elliot Goldenthal's TITUS (should be fun :)
    - Elliot Goldenthal's MICHAEL COLLINS (should be grand)

These scores aren't cheap either in Canada. The re-recording is costing me 30 Canadian bucks and MICHAEL COLLINS goes for 26.49$. I thought of buying COBB instead, but it was actually more expensive than the two-CD SUPERMAN set, and fans seem to agree that MC is way better than COBB, so we'll just have to see :)

P.S.: As you know, I do review score CDs on my website and I'm always open to receiving some CDs for review :) Anyone?

Abre Los Ojos (Alejandro Amenáber/ Mariano Marín): Before The Others, Amenábar already had several scores under his belt, like this one for his own movie currently getting the Hollywood treatment as Vanilla Sky. It's good, sort of like Pino Donaggio when he's scary, with hints of Goldsmith (Basic Instinct's orgasm music, The Omen's high repeated piano notes also in The Others...)

It's a 2-CD set, and for once the song CD is really good, mostly indie bands. My favourite is Sneaker Pimps' version of the traditional How Do, heard before way back in The Wicker Man, the bit when Britt Ekland was naked and singing and slapping the walls of her room so that Edward Woodward would give in and stop being a virgin.

    This just in:

    • The Omen - Deluxe Edition
    • The Final Conflict - Deluxe Edition

Had to buy them in two different stores because the cheaper one sold the new FC but still had only the old Omens in the shelf.

And who needs money if he's got a Visa card anyway...

I picked up the Omen and Final Conflict deluxe versions and the Marco polo Snows of Kilimanjaro/Five Fingers CD but that's been it for film music. Other CD additions include two Chico Hamilton jazz albums--Tanganyika and Gongs East!, a Naxos recording of John Alden Carpenter's first 2 symphonies and his Adventures in a Perambulator, yet another version of the Raff 5th symphony together with his Suite No. 1 for Orch., Jack Black's Tenacious D album, and Judy Holiday's Trouble is a Man album. Although I've picked up more non-film music this month don't think for a moment that I haven't got my eyes on a number of things out there or soon to be--Philip Glass box set, The Night Visitor, etc.
