A week ago I procured the National Geographic - Mysteries of Egypt. ( OK SO I DOWNLOADED IT OFF THE NEWSGROUPS )

    Just for fun mind you.
But I was immediately struck by how good the score sounds. To my ears, this score would have match PERFECTLY into Stargate SG-1 episodes. Best tracks are track 4 and track 9 to me anyway.

So for those wanting some Stargate SG-1 like score, try obtaining this CD. Since we are only blessed with ONE measly CD of the SG-1 score.

It's Mysteries of Egypt by Sam Cardon.

I picked this one up a while ago, based on the strength of Sam Cardon's contributions to another album, Innovators. (A highly recommended album.)

In a sense, Mysteries of Egypt is like an alternate score for The Mummy....

But sure, that's easy to say about any remotely mystical/Egyptian sounding score. This one has an epic (though not often recurring) theme, amusing and mystic ethnic moments (like marketplace music), and long moments of grandiose pensiveness, that naturally suggest the timelessness of the Pyramids and aspects of Egyptian history. Sure, if you can find it, Mysteries is worth a listen.

I'll plug Mysteries of Egypt as well.

Decent film and a great sounding CD.

I haven't heard Innovators, but I do have another IMAX score from Cardon called Whales. It's nice enough. Bright and happy music.

Innovators was one of those CDs had never heard of, picked it up as a freebie promo, and never listened to for months....I missed out.

It's the score to a documentary that focuses on individuals who were...well, innovative. Inventors, philosophers, storytellers. One particular favorite of mine is probably one of the greatest individuals of the 20th century, Albert Schweitzer. If you know the history of Schweitzer, the music is particularly enchanting as it combines Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" with an African choir and ethnic instrumentals. The fusion of the two is quite amazing.

As each of the musical pieces on the album is for a different individual, the music is eccletic, so there's nothing (beyond the unique concept) that really unifies the album, as to a theme. There are classically gothic pieces...celtic folk, bluegrass, new age-synthesizers...it's a truly excellent listening experience.

Hmmm... to my knowledge, there are two... and I happen to own both of them. Joel Goldsmith's score from the pilot, and the new "Season 1" cd that GNP released. Both are terrific discs, if you're a fan of the series.

As for this "Mysteries of Egypt" disc, sounds cool! I'll have to check it out.
