Hey everyone, (for those Hormer fans that CARE.)According to Music from the Movies and Amazon (your welcome Rich
) James Horner's score will be released on Novemner 6th on RCA Victor.RCA usually dosen't release long CDs, this one might be a great 45-50min in length. I love Horner, but 70min Horner's CDs are just too long, hopefully RCA will to their typical 45-50min disc.

Y'know...just out of exhaustive curiosity, (and since there seems to be some competition as to who posts it first)...are you guys, like, on Amazon.com seve days a week typing "Windtalkers" until something shows up with the release date, or are you privy to information that the average joe bag-of-filmscores doesn't have...?

The cover art stinks, like the trailer makes the film look like a B movie... I could have done that in Photoshop
Anyway, if RCA Victor doesn't send me a copy to review you can bet your ass I will be at the local shop on November 6th!

It's part of his daily routine, and he prides himself in being the first to acquire and report such information. LOL. He knows he is a silly boy.

Jason, I think we all could have dont that image on photoshop, but Varese does the same thing, they use the poser image for their CD cover.
And yes, Jeron is right, I love digging for information. But I do NOT sit at amazon typing in names of CDs everyday.
And J-Dawg, I'm not silly!

And re: the WINDTALKERS poster; one interesting thing about both the teaser and final posters is that all of the imagery comes directly from the FILM. (i.e. not a seperate photo shoot for publicity).

Yeah... except if the album is too long for you, you can always cut it and make yourself a shorter version, on CDR, minidisc, or audio tape.
But if the album is "only" 45-50 minutes and there's more music in the movie, I can't make the soundtrack longer, no matter how much I try to stretch the CD.
So I'll take that 78 minute CD over the 45 minute one anytime.

Wistiti, let's not get in this argument again!I, for one, agree with Brian...I'd rather see a 50 minute release than a 70 minute one...
So there!!

The disutility of having more music will be lower for you, than the disutility of having less music will be for me.
To maximize total utility then, the more music the better.
Who says you never get to apply the crap you learn in school?

Wistiti, bud, I happen to side with you on this... the more music, the better. Jason (Hasta) and Brian will continue preaching their 45-50 minute sermons, and then one day (God willing), Horner will break out of his recycle mentality and compose something incredible (probable? no. possible? yes.). Fate would probably work out to where they'd get their shorter album... and ultimately, of course, be crying for a longer one. Boohoo.Jeron

Jeron stop living in the 80's.Both you and I know that Horner will never compose something truly INCREDIBLE from this point on.

Windtalkers, on the MGM website, is under the "coming soon" category and is scheduled for a 6/14/02 release.I think that's as good a confirmation as any.

"WINDTALKERS starring Nick Cage and directed by John Woo is a film that both the filmmakers and the studio are extremely proud of. It is a vivid and realistic story inspired by true events that took place during World War II. The story is one of sacrifice, heroism and courage. We feel certain that this great film will be enjoyed by the broadest possible audience during the strong summer play period," says Robert Levin, president of worldwide theatrical marketing and distribution for MGM Studios, Inc."
BULLSH*T... Everybody knows this film is going to suck, and the only reason they are pushing it is to up the $ coming in. I, for one, hope it bombs.I really don't even care for the film, but I was anticipating Horner's score... Which is why I gets me so pissed.

This is why I get pissed off about the state of things today...."Everyone knows it's going to suck...." Based on what, Captain Foreshadow?I ask a question for an answer I already know. Allow me to predict the future, myself, and guess that the answer will be among or combinations of the following:
1) John Woo (explosions and slow motion, the death of modern cinema.)
2) James Horner (mr re-hash.)
3) Nicolas Cage. (sure, what's he done good lately?)
You guys really piss me off when you "predict" that a movie will "suck", and then love to pat yourself on the back when you determine that it actually does....

Or...you could always pull the "historical innacuracy" card....no one's ever done that in the movies before....

Lancelot, I understand what I said wasn't neccessarily true... But I was venting, pissed off...Now, what I've come to realize over the past few months, is all you do is complain about what other people say. REALLY, that's ALL you do. If people have a negative opinion on something (god forbid), you are there to voice your good ol' opinion.
The thing is you're always complaining about other people being negative, yet you come off as being one of the most negative people on this board. Like I said, all you do is complain and hardly ever have anything positive to say. Kinda ironic.
I rarely even pay attention to your posts anymore, since they are virtually all the same, but I felt inclined to respond here since it was directed at me.

Hasta--have you really read my posts? Because I do talk about positive things, ideas, movies....maybe you recall my supposedly unpopular Lists-of-Ten that I've since given up because they don't seem to be as popular as the threads that are dedicated to complaining about the use of a song over the new Star Trek opening credits, or being the first to try and break the latest news on the "Harry Potter" CD. Posts that I'd rather not participate in. Why? No point.Recently, "Breaking the Silence" was one of my threads that went largely unanswered (apologies to Joan).
I constantly try to encourage the talk of ideas here on the board. Discussion of themes, concepts. It is more productive for the mental process than merely presuming something is going to suck, and then basking in the suckiness of it, saying "I told you so."
Yes, perhaps I have rare and often contradictory opinions about the nature of films/film scoring. But you'll not read a post of mine that predicts the predestined suckfest of a movie, simply because I don't write that kind of crap.
You want to read positive? Read my reviews. It may be hard these days, but I try to find good things to talk about and accentuate rather than this repetitive crap about how "James Horner sounds the same", and "Trevor Rabin can't compose his way out of a paperbag" sh!t.
Come to realize this: When I jump to the defense of something that seems to be caught up in a trend of bashing, it's because I'm trying to offer a differing view. It may not be one that people want to see, and I bet that's hard to handle. Yeah? Tough. Try being me. Having the rest of the world say "You like that? Boy do you suck."I am respectful of others' opinions, and I try to treat others as I myself would be treated. (Granted there may be one indiscretion that I have tried to deal with diplomatically, but realize that logic no longer applies in said situation.)
I understand that even while we disagree on some things, we may agree on others. Sorry if I'm not keeping a scorecard of who's agreeing or disagreeing on what, but if I have something to say, I'll say it in as clear a manner as possible.

Sorry, CK....I'm not saying that posts of the informative kind don't have a place here....beyond release dates, I tend to keep myself (intentionally) in the dark about future releases. (Reading advance track titles--that kind of thing...plus which, I'd rather not work on rumors. Yeah, remember how that whole Zimmer & Star Trek thing got started....?)Basically, all I'm saying is that this board admittedly works best on diversity...if I have to be the voice of dissention, well...I accept that. (I don't revel in it, but...I'm going to try and do it to the best of my ability....)

The "Windtalkers" cd and film releases have been moved to June 14, 2002. MGM is concerned with the weak box office since the US airplane attacks so they are delaying the film release. I was anxiously looking forward to this film. I'm a huge fan of Woo. However I understand why they made the delay and support it. I'll be waiting!
