    Hello again!

Rumors about soundtrack fly on theonering.net

It looks like Enya will have some songs in the film (cool! and now we know why its on Reprise Records)

And rumors of the CD release date are Nov 19th. but we all know the 19th is a Monday, so maybe toward the end of November, like the 20th...

My guess: There ARE a lot of songs in the books, and several of them made it to the films. That's a good thing. I don't think Enya wrote the music or something, at least not with synths and all. I'd say that she's mainly the performer, probably on A Elbereth.

On Enya's website, I think it's Enya.org or something like that, there are two songs just registered which appear to be for FOTR. One has Aragorn and Arwen named in the title.

And I say this is probably Enya's own "album version" of one of Tolkien's songs that's used in relation to Aragorn and Arwen, perhaps the song of Luthien and Beren. Nothing wrong with that. It would be sad if they had cut out all of the story's songs, since many of them are essential.

Anyone who puts Enya and Kenny G on the same level obviously has no idea what they're talking about. That's like comparing Ennio Morricone and Hamzinzer.

I would be a little uneasy about her writing songs for LOTR, but I advocate a performance by her of some of Tolkien's material. Enya's voice has a very Elvish quality.

Looks like Marian and I are on the same wavelength.

Indeed KennyG is far better than Enya, who is not the wife of Ennio.

While I am not the biggest fan of Enya...her style would be ideal if they needed to include a couple songs. There is one way to look at this...if a song must be in the film and sung by a single artist (not a choir) who would you rather it be?

Of course, any of the many celtic artists out there would work, but if they want a name on the soundtrack Enya seems the only logical choice. I honestly don't think anything she performs (if it is indeed in the film) will be offensive...I don't think Peter Jackson would allow it.

ARGH! As Marian has repeatedly called attention to, the source material ... Lord of the Rings ... by J.R.R. Tolkein ... is FULL OF SONGS! With lyrics by him! Any adaptation that ignored this would be lesser for it.

Peter Jackson is being VERY CAREFUL. He wants MUSICAL UNITY. I'll bet that Shore has a major hand in any songs. Enya is a more than capable performer.

For crying out loud people, we still don't have all the facts. Let's not argue about nothing!

I too like Enya's work, but like Shaun said I'm skeptical about whether her work would be appropriate... As long as she isn't writing the music and just singing (and not THAT much!), we should be fine.

For some reason, Enya or not, I never imagined this movie with celtic music. From various rumors, Shore seems to be including some in his score.
But while reading The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rigns, I always imagined the story filmed into a movie with a Mikis Theodorakis score.
I guess that would be the most appropriate response to what I just said. But I can't help shake that feeling that Greek music would have fit the story better.

    Isn't it Ernest Gould?

André, there is a song in LOTR (in part #2, The Two Towers) that would need two voices: The song about the Entwives, sung by a male and a female Ent. They could sing that one.

    More info, from theonering.net

From an annonymous source: "Some additional information about Enya's involvement with the Fellowship from an ex-employee at New Line: 'According to our scooper, the last thing they heard was that the Enya song will be heard over the end credits for Fellowship while the film's main score will be from an orchestra conducted by Howard Shore.' I got this info from a Canadian film site which is actually quite good check it out: follow the Sept 28th news link."
