The Haunting (1999) is a very powerful, scary, and beautiful score. I never fully realized this until last night when I found a tape I had made a few years ago. I'm guessing I got this score from the library and recorded three tracks on a cassette tape, but I don't really remember. I enjoyed the music very much and was thinking of buying the cd. But first I must ask a question.
Does anybody know if a complete (or near complete) score to Jerry Goldsmith's The Haunting is floating around? I would love it if perhaps one of you could help me with this. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Dylan,

There is a compilation boot running around that has the full end credits, but I have not seen, nor have I heard, of a comnplete score release of any kind for this. Which is too bad, because I would LOVE to have that myself. I absolutely HATED this music at first...I had wanted it to be like Alien. Instead, Goldsmith wrote something completely different and it took me awhile to warm up to it and realize what he was doing. Now, I find the two main themes to be some of the most beautiful music Goldsmith has created. Interesting synth effects too! Let's keep our ears open and fingers crossed for something...(but don't hold your breath...)

    Hi Joel,

I think the compilation that's running around is called "A History of Horror: 1921-1999" from Silva Screen Records. It's 2 disks and I have heard that it includes the complete end credits. So, combine that and the release that's 10 tracks and a 40 minute score
There's a German site on the web where you can listen to every track on that album.
    Here it is-

Very funny that this was brought up since I did a search on The Haunting yesterday and came accross this on the web. I once heard that there is a huge amount of music that was written for the film. If a complete or expanded isnt available I guess the best thing to do would be to by the album released by Varese...unless someone else here knows something that we don't.

I too, didn't like the music when I first heard it......and I too LOVE the music now (as of yesterday) once I realized how much genius is in this score.
