Does anyone have the new Collectables Records release of this score? How does it compare to the Cambria release?

Apparently, the sound is a bit better.
I can't remember from previous discussions what was on the Cambria release, but this Collectables version does not have any of the choral cues and runs at some 60 minutes or so.

NOTE: I do not have the CD, so I cannot tell you with more exactitude. These are comments made by someone else to whom I asked a question about this new edition of the score.

I don't have the Sodom & Gomorrah Collectables release (maybe it's going to arrive next week).

The Cambria release sounds terrible and contais only 64 min in 23 tracks; Soundtrack Library release, which is not a pressed CD, is far better and contains the complete score plus Spellbound.

    Best,

    Flavio

I have both, and can tell you this much: the Cambria has more music on it (about 22 minutes more), but the BMG/Collectables version has much better (though not exactly perfect) sound. The Collectables is recorded a bit "hot" (loud), but the brass has good bite and the details are nice and distinct. It's a much more enjoyable listen than the muffled Cambria release, IMHO, and probably about as good as you're ever going to hear it...unless you know someone who has the 2LP Legend complete score album and is willing to spend the time to transfer it to CD.

Dana, the Sodoma & Gomorrah bootleg CDs is the result of a good job in transfer from the Legend 2LP.

Unfortunately the bootleg does not provide tracklist.

If it's really the same as the Legend LPs, then I have a track list! (Postable upon request)

What material from Spellbound is on this CD?

Spellbound is conducted by Ray Heindof.
10 tracks, 36 min. Unfortunately there's no tracklist, just like Sodom & Gomorrah.

Sounds very good for a bootleg CD.

So the bottom line is that if I have the Cambria version, then this one is still worth getting? Nice to know that!

    Hey Dana,

Thanks! The tracks fit in number and lenght (each CD track has four additional seconds).
Today I listened the CDs one more time and I don't think they are transfered from LPs. There's minimum hiss and it don't seems to be a digital app job.

Here is the last paragraph from the inlay:

    quote:
For years the recondig has been available from a bad fake quad tape. This is from the original two track stereo tape which has not been heard since 1959!!

Sadly the booklet is a single page and does not provide info on the Sodom sources.

    In time:

The correct title for track 5 on side B is Answer to a Dream according to the Cambria CD tracklist.

    Best.

I did an "impulse buy" tonight and picked the BMG Collectables release of this up. 15 tracks/42:30 "Originally released as RCA-LSO-1076 in 1963."

Sound quality is good (hey, it's 1963!) The recording is less 'harsh' when compared to Chapter III's El Cid and the stereo separation is much more natural.

Very good stuff indeed! I'm so happy when I blindly pick up stuff and get rewarded with fantastic music.

    MP3 sound clips available.
