Every so many months we get a post regarding "favorites" or "Oscar" potentials. So, here we are with just 3 months to go (basically), what are your top 5 favorites so far this year?

    Mine have been/are (alphabetical order):

    Arnold: The Musketeer
    Blanchard: The Caveman's Valentine
    Elfman: Planet of the Apes
    Goldenthal: Final Fantasy
    Williams: A.I.

I doubt any have a shot at an Oscar nod, maybe "A.I."

I think this has been a great year! Here are my favorites:

    Jurassic Park III - Davis
    The Musketeer - Arnold
    Atlantis - Howard
    The Mummy Returns - Silvestri
    Final Fantasy/A.I./Caveman's Valentine (3-way tie )

And I'd also like to give the "wildcard" vote to Varese's "Cast Away" Silvestri compilation...not only is the score from Cast Away very nice, but this comp. disc is one of the finest and well put together I've ever come across.

    So far this year:
    1) The Mists of Avalon (Lee Holdridge)
    2) All the Pretty Horses (Three people and a few others...)
    3) The Crimson Rivers (aka Les Rivičres Pourpres) (Bruno Coulais)
    4) The Tailor of Panama (Shaun Davey, Victor Heredia)
    5) Enemy at the Gates (James Horner, Dmitry Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofiev, traditional, etc. etc. etc.)
    6) The Brotherhood of Wolves (aka Le Pacte des Loups) (Joseph LoDuca)

The rest of this year's scores were either pure and simple noise, or had nothing even remotely interesting.

I still think the greatest film and the greatest score of 2001 is Monkeybone. And I personally don't think my opinion will change.
Planet of the Apes by Danny Elfman would be my second choice.

I forgot to list 3rd and 4th place.

    3. Shrek by John Powell and Harry Gregson Williams. A magnificent achievment that has yet to see a score release.

    4. Evolution by John Powell. Full of themes, including the very nice "hero" theme, and is another very Elfman-esq score to be released this year.

I wasn't impressed at all with Elfman's Planet Of The Apes score. Maybe a few more listens to the disc will change my mind, but I doubt it.

My favourites this year have been

    Jurassic Park III, Don Davis
    Final Fantasy, Elliot Goldenthal
    The Mummy Returns, Alan Silvestri

I haven't heard a lot of the others listed.

    I'll mention it. Pearl Harbor.

The score is one of the best this summer had to offer, despite the film itself (but this is true of almost every major film released to this moment of the year).

The Others is also another one of the best of the year.

I didn't mention THE OTHERS, though I have the CD, because the film doesn't come out in the UK until the start of November.
