    I'm a little biased, but...

I thought the score was quite dark and moody (as was the film). The use of a solo cello to represent Ruby's (Leelee Sobieski) isolation worked quite well, and the solo piano bit always does it for me too.

I enjoyed his "tribute" to URBAN LEGEND (and other slasher films) at the beginning of the movie; you'll see. (Dunno if it's on the Varese CD release, though...)

Overall, the film wasn't terrible, but the ending left me with an unsatisfied taste in my mouth.

    Dan

I'm hunting down the score today... so my review may be coming soon.

Seeing the previews, "The Glass House" looks like an amalgam of two equally bad films that Young has scored: "Flowers in the Attic" and "Hush". But I just know that Young's score will transcend the film's awfulness.

Yeah, it's a nice solo cello playing an ascending and descending motif in a middle register. Rather soulfull and isolated.

    Adds nicely to the tension.

You know I really don't understand the track titles in relation to the movie.

Even if I had an AX. Where in Time? and whats a Sotto Voce? I don't know what all that means even after seeing the movie.

Honestly, the track titles probably have NOTHING to do with the film. Most of his albums are like that....

I like Young's track titles, much in the same way as I enjoy Davis's and Goldenthal's. They often range from funny to just plain cool.

Having said that, the track title "Glasseration" sounds like something Goldenthal would come up with.

Whether or not the titles have anything to do with the scene in the film is unimportant to me, as score albums basically seperate the music from the film anyway.

Glasseration is Young's requisite 'composer title', meaning that every score he's done(save for the company enforced titles like HARD RAIN-Milan,where he didn't get to name the cues), one cue contains the name of the composer.

This one, obviously, is Phillip Glass. There is a complete list of these floating around, with the fairly obvious(Salterello-Hans Salter on The Big Kahuna) to the more difficult(Too Young-Victor Young on Norma Jean and Marilyn).

Now, don't make me type up that list

    VERY VERY happy it's Friday,
    Sean

PS...and going to see the film tomorrow and revel in Young's gorgeous score.

PPS...for more nice Young cello writing, try Jennifer 8 - Cello for Helena

...and I must correct myself, since I was just notified(grazia Mr.T ) that this one is Albert Glasser, the composer that the Filmus-L gang loves to hate, but apparently he was a hell of a nice guy and has a soft spot in many horror/sci-fi genre fans hearts.

I know that the MST3K mentions him every time they have to endure(enjoy?)a Bert I. Gordon epic!

Guesss what? I have the list of Young's composer-oriented track titles. Here it is:

    Auriculae (Georges Auric): Urban Legend
Bax Max (Sir Arthur Bax): Species
Barron Funk (Louis & Bebe Barron): Virtuosity
Barrytone Sax (John Barry): The Man Who Knew Too Little
Bartok Barbaro (Bela Bartok): The Fly II
Brought On By Night (Bruce Broughton): Hellraiser
A Constant Spirit (Marius Constant): Murder in the First
Must Continue (Bill Conti): Max and Helen
Dela Rue (Georges Delerue): The Vagrant
    Outfoxed (Charles Fox): Jennifer 8
Freed of Her (Hugo Friedhofer): A Nightmare on Elm Street 2
Glasseration (Philip Glass or Arthur Glasser): The Glass House
Jerry's Gold Myth (Jerry Goldsmith): The Power
Green to Green (Johnny Green): The Dark Half
Her Man Awaits (Bernard Herrmann): Pranks
    KaperKut (Bronislau Kaper): Rapid Fire
Lena Lai (Francis Lai): Dream Lover
May Flowers (Brian May): Flowers in the Attic
Too Morose? (Jerome Moross): Bright Angel
    A New Man's Destiny (Alfred Newman): Def-Con 4
A North Passage (Alex North): Bat 21
Polidori's Potions (Basil Poledouris): Haunted Summer
Rag Skin Blues (David Raksin): The Vagrant
    Riddle Fiddle (Nelson Riddle): Unforgettable
    Rosealec (David Rose): Rounders
Rota Rooter (Nino Rota): Set It Off
Salterello (Hans J. Salter): The Big Kahuna
Scottomania (John Scott, though, IMHO, there is much more that could have been done): The Gift
Sire Shire (David Shire): Wonder Boys
Skin Her Alive (Frank Skinner): Hellbound: Hellraiser II
Black Thorn (Ken Thorne): Judicial Consent
Bee Wax Menthol (Franz Waxman): Judas Kiss
The Water Web (Roy Webb): Oasis
Too Young (Victor Young): Norma Jean and Marilyn

I found it at another message board earlier this year. The way I figure, it's only a matter of time before (maybe) Richard Band, Maurice Jarre and Miklos Rozsa (use your imagination).

While it could be either of those composers that is who I thought of while listening to the score. It's fun trying to pick them out in any case!
