Flip to a news channel/site to hear about it. Guess I'm stuck here in Jersey for a while considering the PATH train is the only way I go back home.

We've been watching here at work. All sorts of things go through your mind when you see this. Even as detached by way of distance a person is- everyone, and I mean everyone has an emotion about this.I wish I could understand the motivations behind such a senseless act against human life. That may sound flowery, but I truly think that nothing can be a good enough answer to me as to why. Politics, Greed, anyone of those motivations is simply a sore and unequalizing excuse.
I'm the son of a military family. And while I love my country, I know what the military is capable of, and several of the people here at work went to Desert Storm and have been in the military in the past before that event. They all say let's hunt down who did this. Somebody has to die for this to equate with the passengers of those planes who died, the people injured or killed by the debris of the collapse, those in the World Trade Center, those in the Pentagon...
Biblical implications will fly, warriors will want to take up arms, and the American citizens are left with a big slew of question marks. Me, I'm no hippie who thinks we should make love not war- if anything I'm like anyone else. We need to find the people who did this, find their motivations, uproot their possibilities- and bring them to justice. As an American citizen, while I may never have an answer to my demand- I would still insist that we get justice. Beyond that, all I can do is just shut up and watch and hope in the name of the good I have in the world that no one I love gets seriously harmed from this.

My cousin who worked in the World Trade Center, narrowly, and I mean narrowly, escaped with his life. My joy that my family has been spared personal tragedy is tempered by the knowledge that for literally thousands of others, the news will not be as good.I will not bother to offer my reflections on the deeper meanings of this tragedy in relation to my thoughts of what it says about the evil that exists in this world, but I will say this. As one who grew up in the New York area and for whom the sight of the World Trade Center was a familiar, reassuring symbol to me, I like many felt the impulsive need to always look at some Hollywood FX movie that showed these familar symbols subject to destruction. How many of us sat through "Meteor" or "Deep Impact" just because we wanted to ooh and ahh at Hollywood's ability to make these seemingly impregnable symbols fall? And yet, as we marveled at it, we always felt it was okay to ooh and ahh because we never thought we'd be forced to see that kind of sight for real up close with our own eyes on live television. This is supposed to be the kind of thing only Irwin Allen or Jerry Bruckheimer would dream up, and thus we could feel safe oohing at the FX and not feeling affected by the human tragedy that would have to accompany such an event because we still kept thinking, "That can never happen in real life."
What a sobering wake-up call for all of us today. I know that I will never be able to look at a Hollywood FX movie showing that kind of destruction in the same light again. And maybe out of a sense of good taste we won't feel so compelled to see that kind of movie made for a long time to come.

Killing anyone will not solve anything. Whoever did this was about as great an ******* as you can be, but it would be much more helpful to do anything to help the victims than to want to kill whomever. I condemn these attacks like everyone else.

this is not an isolated incident this is part of a cycle of mutual violence that has been ongoing for some time...
it is time to stop the cycle rather then continue it with more killings that will not solve anything as the events of today showed...BTW i can enjoy action movies etc because they are movies, real life and movies dont overlap in amy way in my mind

This IS terrible news. Even the government is affected with the Pentagon. It's a nightmare. From now on, everything changes. The gevernment will find out who did this and they will pay.On another note:
Movies (Bruckheimer's or whoever's) will never be able to replicate the same tragedy that real life will be because it's not real, no matter how 'real' they try to make it.posted 09-11-2001 10:03 AM PT (US)

I can't believe that this is real .
Every time I see the pictures from New York and Washington I burst into tears. Why some people do this?
It's absolutely crazy. They will solve absolutely nothing with such actions. They will cause only more problems, for themselves
This is the most terrible thing that happened to the world since the second world war.My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

John: CNN actually had Clancy on earlier this morning. He was talking about how he had mentioned a possible attack of this sort happening to a high-ranking general in the Army. I thought this act was only something spawned by the imagination...something that wouldn't happen in reality.

Marian,I want to make clear that my statement about somebody having to die to equal what happened to those casualties of today's events while unwritten as such was really what some of my co-workers think- that nuking Palestine will settle everything in one moment. I do not share their opinion- and I would prefer this nation hunt those responsible and bring them to justice. I am an American Citizen who believes more in dignity and justice than the easy way of nuclear attack the way most of my compatriots do. Should anyway question my patriotism, which so far no one has, I will deal with them- but that't not the point. The point is my country has been attacked. We are not crippled. We are not afraid to ask for help- but we are also not an invalid nation.
I know people who think this is the Armageddon coming. For whatever it's worth, I think it is exactly as Bush said: It is a test of our resolve. And if you look at our posture in the world as to our history, I think most people we find we have a lot more backbone, and we are just as prepared to defend what we believe.

I want to clear up something as well: I wouldn't in the least care for those responsible for this if somebody shoots them or whatever. What makes me feel uneasy is when "normal" people deliberately want to kill somebody, regardless of what they've done - even if I don't care for those others.Anyway, seeing how "easy" it is to do something like this, I'm actually a bit surprised that something similar hasn't already happened before. Airplane security seems to be the critical point here, something that has to be improved as soon as possible (though I don't know how).

It' scary how the scenes on TV look like something right out of Independance Day or other similar films. As a generation brought up on blockbuster movies, you sometimes have to sit back and realsie that what you're seeing on TV is the real thing, and that real people are getting killed.Hope all of you over in the US are ok, both physically and emotionally. Remember that helping the injured is much higher on the priority list than paying the terrorists back.

Perhaps for the very first time we here in the US have awakened to the simple fact that terrorsim cannot be shielded from this great nation. Thousands and thousands of people lost their lives today and the implication of this attack, from flying to the simple sense of security within our own boarders, can only be imagined. My heart goes out to all the families and friends of the victims as do my prayers. I will be donating blood tommorrow and do whatever I can to help in this time of grief and dispair.
May we find the guilty quickly and may they pay the price that juistice in the hearts of man requires.

At a time like this, as you wait for more information, inevitably matters of less consequence will pop into your head. It occurs to me that if the producers of the upcoming Spiderman movie have an ounce of decency in them, they will reshoot or scrap that sequence that featured prominently in the teaser trailer, which involved the World Trade Center.

I am reminded of the 1st episode of 7 Days where a plane crashed into the side of the white house killing the president. It looked so real, with the rubble and the papers falling down to the ground. It looked just like todays events, but also chilled me to actually think- it's just as easy to commit such events in real life.110 stories of building falling down from that far... if there are survivors, it would surprise the hell out of me.
I am very angry at the moment, 3 weeks ago Bin Laden said he would commit a attack against the U.S. the likes of which have not been seen before- why the hell did we sit back and do nothing.
Oliver North has said that sources say there were 50 people sent out to devestate the U.S. and Isreal.
My sympothys go out to all of you tied up in this.
But please everyone be careful, 50 people... this is not over yet and very well could be the catalyst that will plunge the world into a 3 war.
