Recently I picked up Gerhardt's Miklos Rozsa recording, which contains 3.5 minutes from The Jungle Book. The cue has caught my attention and I want to hear more. I see that Intrada has the "original mono tracks" on the Flapper label and a Varese (well, Colosseum) re-recording for twice as much money.
Does the Flapper version contain any narration or other annoying stuff?
Danke!

I have the "Colloseum" release. It's essentially the complete symphonic suite with no narration and good sound. The only downside: one huge 30+ minute track!
That's actually not too bad, since I'm usually in the mood for it all at once anyway. This version also comes coupled with "Thief of Bagdad."
I would also be interested to hear about the Flapper version. How's the sound? Is there more music than the Colosseum issue? This is an important score to me, so if there's a better recording out there, I want to know!

http://www.moviemusic.com/title.asp?id=spellboundjunglebookThis is the Flapper version, and as you will see, there is one track for Jungle Book. Narration is there and everything is in mono (very good sound for the time), track runs 27+ minutes. Recorded in NYC March 23, 1942. Sabu narrates; the Victor Symphony Orchestra is conducted by the composer. The Jungle book recording is said to be the first soundtrack release ever.... As it is, this is a great compilation for archivists and true Miklos Rozsa enthusiasts.

Peter's analsis of it is good. This is one great score. I have all of them and my favorite is the old Entr'acte LP of it. Great themes. I have several different versions on CD and LP. Some with narration and some not. This is teamed with Enchanted Cottage by Roy Webb, another fine score on that old LP, along with Waxman's great Paradine Case piano and orchestra score. John.

should be "analysis". And the Waxman part is a concerto based on his score. John.

Maybe I'll pick both versions up.
Thanks for the input, everybody!
