I have found CotT brand new for $8.49. I see that it is out of print. I haven't watched the movie in a while so I don't remember the music. Is the score worth buying? Is it collectible at all?

    Ok...

    #1. Yeah, buy it!

#2. Don't buy it because of the collectablity. (Which Clash isn't, really....it's been available for a while now.) Rosenthal's written a great score for this mythological film vision--it's worth it to own in your library. 'Course, if that doesn't float your boat....

    Dear Michel,

    Collectible? No.
    Worth buying? YES!

It's a very nice score, and if I had found it (as you have), it would already be spinning in my CD player!

Thanks for your responses. I'll buy it! I was just asking about collectibility because I didn't want to pass on it, and 5 or 10 years from now, it end up being hard to find but popular and expensive!

Here you go, Chris! I just ordered it so I hope you can get it, too.

AHHH...but is it the one with the 3 extra cues?

The problem with this Tower Records album is that it has 14 tracks.

There is an expanded version with 3 extra cues, for a total of 17 tracks which amounts to about 10 more minutes of music.

That version is available in most Soundtrack specialty outlets. And is available on the Super Tracks label from Supercollector.

Don't confuse the lad. $8 for a score he's never heard, what's the difference, 14 vs. 17 tracks? Go for the cheap.

By all means, go for the cheap one. At under $9, you can't lose. If you enjoy it, you can always watch for the extended one.

    Yeah, don't confuse this lassie!
I don't mind missing those few cues! I'm satisfied with it.
    Thanks!

My apologies. (Guess I was thinking of Jean-Michel Jarre or something off the wall like that...excuses, excuses...)

I would buy Titans for the Pegasus cue alone.

    Apology accepted!

Perfect! I love Pegasus! He's my favorite thing in the movie. Also, my nickname at another board is Pegasus. I love horses and flying so it's a perfect combination!
I even have the original Pegasus toy from the movie. This was one of those great childhood movies for me so now you see why I want the score and haven't even heard it except in the movie years ago.

Clash of the Titans is a wonderful little score with an epic quality reminescant of the Gladiator movies of yesteryear, with a dash of Korngoldesque swashbuckling romaticisim. The main titles alone is one of the most memorable sounding cues I've heard in my lifetime.

Yeah, I think it's worth it

Don't EVER buy scores for collectablilty. What matters is if you like the music.

If you're into the Pegasus cue then I would heartily recommend Last Reel Fight from The Adventures of Superman and Jet Umbrellas from Batman (1966).

Along those lines, Rosenthal's Peter the Great is also quite good, if you can find a copy...

....and as film adaptations of myths go, Clash is pretty decent. Sure, it's early 80's schlock, to a certain degree, but it's Ray Harryhausen...No CGI, here. Look at something like Hercules: The Legendary Adventures...it's a good show, though most of it's CGI...hydras, cerberus, etc. (LoDuca does terrific work here, by the way.)...Harryhausen's a pioneer...you can see his influence in everything from Hercules to Nightmare Before Christmas and Phantom Menace....

...seeing Olivier play Zeus...well, it's just classy. It's like seeing Connery play King Arthur...

...Harry Hamlin? L.A. Law? Guess playing Cusack was a step down from Greek Demigod...

...Bubo the Electric Owl. It's not R2-D2, but it fills the "cute non-verbal sidekick" role...and look for Pat Roach (famous big guy) as Hephaestus...

...just rambling on a favorite subject....s'all....
