The trailer looks great, so does the movie. Kevin Reynolds directing. So who is doing the music? And any news of a score release?

Ed Shearmur is doing the score.

    Dunno about a release.

I believe I read an interview with him saying that there will be a release.

Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favorite novels, so I have some vested interest in the handling of this....

Kevin Reynolds, the all star director of such classics as Waterworld and Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves?!?!?!? I cannot wait!!

On a serious note, I didn't think Waterworld was nearly as bad as people made it out to be... Though it was by no means great.

You'd think Newton-Howard might scoring it, but apparently not. Unfortunate I say.

Actually, just read this from a sneak preview somebody saw...

"The music was awful, but everybody complained about that so hopefully they'll change it."

    Funny.

The Interview with Shearmur about the music being released was over at www. Soundtrack. net

According to last week's Hollywood Reporter, RCA Victor will release the score for Count of Monte-Cristo.

I can't say I'm expecting much from this movie. I have yet to see something which I would consider to be a good movie adaptation of the novel.

Was the sneak preview the score or a temp track? The film looks like it could be okay, but the trailer doesn't get my hopes too high. I'd much rather see Guillermo del Toro's version of the tale, recast as kind of like a gothic horror. Seen some really amazing artwork sketches he's done, although whether he is actually likely to make it or not is unsure.

Anyway, hasn't this version been put back to next year now?

Geez Brian. I guess you didn't read the interview with Ed Shearmur that you told me you read.

Guess that's the last time I believe you!!

I had heard a rumor (from Dark Horizons) that the film was being held back for a 2002 release. But when I asked Shearmur's office, they hadn't heard of such a delay. (Of course, they were busy recording K-PAX, so maybe they just hadn't found out yet.....)

    From the interview:
    quote:
many times they'll release the songs before they release the score, as with Charlie's Angels.

Does that mean there's a score album for Charlie's Angels? Or have I fallen asleep again & missed something?

No, Shearmur was just referring to the trend that a song album would be released before any score album. There is no score release for CHARLIE'S ANGELS. I think that Shearmur was saying that if there WERE to be one, it would certainly have come out only AFTER the song album had come out.
